Can you use subsonic cartridges in competitions? Are there any rules that prevent you using these?

Are there any disadvantages?

I understand that if I practice using subsonic cartridges, then there should be no disadvantages to using subsonic cartridges in competitions as consistency of speed of the shot is more important than the actual speed. What is your view?

You can certainly use them. You would find that at long targets you could struggle with breaks and/ or needing extra leeed. I would get some proper speed low recoil cartridges if I were you.. Express 24g High Velocity would be a good next step up..

It would depend on the type of competition you're talking about, one involving hitting and breaking a lot of distant clays wouldn't necessarily suit subs.

I remember reading an article about cartridge noise level's + test's done revealing that there was little if not no noise difference between subsonic shell's to ordinary ones

If you've tried them you would hear that this is not true, they are a lot quieter and don't echo down the valley!

Why don't you have your name in your profile Jake? I thought it had been made compulsory

1145 FPS at 3 feet will break as good the 1345 FPS shells. Supersonic shells loose velocity at twice the rate of subsonic. Supersonic shells also don't pattern as tight. This is all physics! Just look it up! Choke up and get a denser and shorter pattern that will place more pellets on a target which will insure a good break. I have crushed long targets usinf 1145 FPS Winchester 8.5. They also work well on birds in my 28 gauge!
