Mixed fortunes today.

Took the new 686 E out for the first weekend of shooting with it, with very mixed results.

Dorchester DTL was trerrible 11 from 50 twice.

Back at Ashcombe on the compact sporting 20 from 25 twice :)

Also at Ashcombe went up to the normal sporting 8 from 25 :(

This shooting malarky is gonna drive me pleasantly insane

Wez.

We've all been there Wez - in fact, some us are still there!  Keep at it!  Practice, coaching, lots of practice!

It's great, innit??     :hunter:

Yep, still there!  Scores like yoyo's but lovin' it  :hunter:   :hunter: :hi:

Ah bless the old beretta trick shooting everywhere other then where your looking easy remedied by either swapping for a mirook mk38 or just keeping the barrels well below as they have been known to shoot a wee bit high! but good luck Wez

Well Rob Eaton established that mine was shooting flat and we had to raise the comb accordingly!
Goodness me Robert that must be worth more then an upside down penny black! joking apart having owned many i have yet to come across one that shot flat maybe the penny has finally dropped and been sorted :girlcrazy:

Change the record...

I agree with shaun i have owned about 12 beretta over the years (all trap models so cant comment on sporter) and none have shot flat in fact far from it. Is op gun a trap ?

It was Shaun who made the generalisation that Beretta's are known to shoot high.  I merely commented that mine which is a sporter shoots flat.  Wez, the OP has not stated what version his 686 e is but they can come as Skeet, Trap or Sporter.  I don't know if they did a game version as there are the ultralight and the Silver Pigeon in game versions.

Yes one would expect a sporter to shoot flatter as i say i only ever speak trap. :)

I've owned a 682 sporter which shot too flat (couldn't say whether 50/50 as I simply don't know) and own a 682E Trap and 682E Trap high rib neither of which shoots high, also owned at least two Beretta semi automatics that shot to POA.

The only gun I've ever come across that shot high was a Remington 1100 Trap 30" that needed beading clays underneath.

The reason Rob Eaton suggested adjusting the comb so that my fit means it shoots higher is so that you don't have to lose sight of the clay before pulling the trigger which made a lot of sense to me and did exactly what he had said after we had made the small adjustment.  Lucky that I have an adjustable comb.

None of my berettas ever shot flat and my last one Dt10 was the most extreme two guys i shoot with weekly shoot beretta and both have always stated theirs shoot high, having done lots of research about my Dt10 before i sold it most people agreed theirs shot high some more then others, Having mounted your beretta Hamster it is without a doubt the most amount of rib i have ever seen on a set up and i guess its just the style you shoot, everyone shoots with a setup that suits but however IMO without a doubt they shoot high. :keeporder:

    Absolutely agree but this gun will shoot pretty much the same POI regardless of how much rib you see, the reason many experienced shooters do this is that it is an organic way of achieving what guns like the CG Impact are meant to do without their drawbacks. When I lend the gun to people for a few shots I repeatedly have to remind them not to ride clays and treat it as a normal gun and most hit clays with it straight away. I haven't shot DT10's seriously and certainly not at a pattern plate but they may well shoot higher than a 682, but I will say that sight picture as in visible rib height is not the best indicator of pattern placement; I personally believe it is the maker who decides where the gun will shoot in how the barrels/rib are made in the first place.

Sorry Wez thought your original post was for helpful advice and not just a blow by blow account of your day, high shooting berettas have caused me many problems over the years so i just thought i would make you aware :fie:
