not wishing to be controversial, but its probably so they can charge mates rates. If there is no price published anywhere you can basically name it when asked, customer takes it or leaves it. The old chestnut of "cartridge prices are volatile so our website may not be up to date" doesn't cut the mustard with me I'm afraid, it takes 2 seconds to raise your prices. As for "phone for the best deals" dont even get me started!!!!!!!!
My pet hate is sites quoting POA on everything

Going back to enstone club, this is where I I have been going! Now must admit as I am only recently getting back into this game and pass it quite often as its fairly local to me as I'm often out that way so first port of call you might say to get back in the swing of things, but now reading this post I am seriously kicking myself for not doing a bit more research as by all accounts this is expensive, so gents, my question is where would you suggest to venture, I am out in Heyford, near Bicester for those who know the area, basically I am out for fun and as I say just getting back into some clay shooting after a 25 year break so needs to be fairly easy going! Steve
Edgehill Banbury

Brize Norton gun club nr witney

Cheers Fuzrat, definitely gonna try this one out as fairly close to me too, need all the help I can get!

Steve

I too have been using the Enstone ground for practice since I started shooting last year, what I like about it is that you can shoot on your own because they have card/ pay and play system which suits me as I often just pop up there mid week.

However would love to try somewhere new, does anyone know if Edgehill have a similar system? I had a quick look at their web site but it doesn't seem to say

As well as "Pay & Play" these shoot on your own systems are referred to as "Claymate" after the maker/designer Promatic who provide these in built delay systems

Sounds like you are in the north of the county?? so a little trip up to Northampton shooting ground for some practice could be good ;) ;)

@steveco36 what area are you in?

Coleys near Cheltenham is worth a trip but give yourself plenty of time mind, they also have a Claymate system, lot of stands, varying degrees of difficulty , 33p a clay not the cheapest but considerably less than that 44p rate mentioned here.

Upper Heyford, near Bicester, so seems fairly close to a few good grounds, Edgehill is only a short hop down the motorway for me, Brize Norton is about an hours drive same as Northampton thanks tiptopgun) again Cheltenham is not a million miles away either!  really, gues I'm pretty much surrounded it was just Enstone was the one I passed regularly and although they are expensive as it turns out, the staff are great afterall they let me loose after 25+ years outta the game and got me brushed back up in no time!

cant wait till I get me little piece of paper so I can get out there and get my own gun again then will have a travel about to different grounds for sure, now, not going to say you will be lucky here, but may catch some of you up at some stage in the near futue! (scary thought I know) ;)

Edgehill Have buttons so you have to go round with someone.. as said though the people are very friendly !!

Edgehill have Promatic wifi thingy on skeet so you can amuse yourself with a four second delay if you are solo or someone will button for you if needed. UT, ABT and DTL are on accoustic release. High towers and sporting need a buttoner. Hope that helps.

On your own on a skeet layout, full range of emotions and no one to upset, that's worth a visit alone.
