Hi

Just back from shooting ABT and had a nice day, very very hot 35C and not a breath of a breeze! Anyway I have to say I thought I did well shot 20,21 and 22 best to date so I am going the right way. My question is what is a reasonable time to take your shot? I don't know how long I take but I have a routine and I like to stick to it but I am worried I may be taking too long. I am certain I heard some one shouting hello when I was taking my shot. My immediate thought was are they saying I am taking too long to shoot. Anyway I did not change my approach just kept it going but it is a worry that I may be taking too long to shoot, I don't want to get people upset if I am. I mean what is reasonable 10 - 15 seconds? No one actually said anything after the round but would hate to be seen as the guy who takes for ever to take a shot.

Ignore other people set your own pace, as long as you take your shot within 10 sec (unless its changed) you can not be penalised.

Well shot by the way.

Watch a squad of local's shooting , see what their timing is. Blend in by doing the same and everyone's a winner :)

Thanks for the replies. I will watch my time it could be that I am taking longer than I think I am. Its very difficult to try and time yourself  as you can't count and shoot at the same time but I will ask and see what the opinion is about my timing. What I do, I do deliberately I shoulder my gun and then take my gun hold and steady my gun , when I am happy I call and shoot. I. Even though I say it myself, was very effective today, for a newcomer, and my focus was good, it could be that people don't like well focused shooters when their scores are going the right way. To be fair it was very hot and perhaps some cope with it better than others.

I doubt if you are taking longer than you think. Think about when you do a minutes silence, feels like ages doesn't it? 10 seconds is a fair old time. I quite often get Mrs Fuz to video me shooting skeet, she only videos me from when I step onto the pad to when I step off to save time watching the whole squad and pauses it between stations. The clips are between 2min 20secs and 2min 40secs so thats about 150 seconds total to shoot a round of skeet.

Thats 12 seconds per station (granted on 3 and 5 its just 2 singles rather than 2 singles and a pair everywhere else) I think I am quite slow at the moment with sorting out hold and look points, but watching me on video I am at a decent pace and have seen slower.

Rhythm is very important in all shooting and if you are rushing you will make mistakes :(

They are YOUR targets to shoot in YOUR time.  Never let the squad set YOUR pace.

The score you post is attributable only to YOU, not the squad.  And you don't have to consult anyone about if it is OK.  If it's not the official will let you know and his opinion is the only one that counts.

JMO of course

Exactly, never enter into the rhythm of it , it will cause you problems eventually by shooting too fast, If I sense it happening I sometimes mount the gun ready then bring the gun down again to ruin the rhythm.

Are you sure about the Math's Fuz ?
doh    yep, you are right 21-24 secs per station, I confused myself at the time by also working it out per "set of targets" or "re-load per station" if that makes sense?. For instance 2 on station 1, 2 on 2, 1 on 3 etc. That comes out around 10-12 secs per pair of targets  :)

If the shooter takes 30 second's + to prepare then that is excessive and does nothing good for the shooter. When on the stand all the shooter has to do is load , focus and shoot. All other preparation should have been done before stepping onto the stand.

You're going to have to shoot faster than that at ABT tomorrow Watchman if you want to make the DT at the other end of Island in the afternoon hahaha.

Don't you worry about me jake, I'll be back in time for tea and crumpets before you can take the safety catch off

Don't get me wrong i am not criticizing i know exactly what you mean, it is possible to get drawn into shooting at a rhythm that doesn't suit so if you can take control of the situation then why not. I find it strange that the fastest squads are Dtl as you would think that they would be the slowest as they are all brain dead :)

It is not always deliberate with people buggering about though.........for instance.......I put mine down when I miss mount ......then start again...

I don't really notice or care if people like it......my time on the peg is my time on the peg.....

I don't find DTL'ers brain dead..........I find them really friendly.

Absolutely no criticism taken, but im sure you know what I mean when that rhythmic type of shooting starts within the squad and you almost feel as though you shouldn't break it, well I just won't be drawn into it.
