Screw the bins.  Ejectors were invented so we don't have to bother with the empties.  Overpaid range personnel and outrageous entry fees can take care of that later.

Hey Charlie there is a limit though... I was doing some practice when a shooter using a semi was wizzing his empties past my nose, I was on five he was on two ! Outrageous ban them🤣

Is this really a thing? Blimey glad I don’t shoot DTL if putting your cartridges in the bin is enough to trigger a comment. 🤷🏻‍♂️🙈

It can also trigger the mike.
Yes it can defo trigger a sensitively set micro. Thing is if you discard the empties in a sensible way there is no problem and if the next shooter is in some way distracted by this perfectly legitimate act he or she is not concentrating on their objective. Most of the grounds I shoot at have none ridged baskets now so noise is no longer an issue provided as I said the cartridges are deposited in a sensible way.

Wait and see what happens when you DON'T put yer cartridges in the bin   !       😯

They don't arf get upset when your trying to get yer empties from between their feet with one of them 'Gripstick' thingies too.  Mind you, I have learned a lesson....................I make sure I have a tin of Vaseline in me skeet vest pocket   !

WOW!  Now this is where the shooters can win the hearts of the the Olympic Committee!  Remember my suggestion about barely pubescent girls in painted on costumes being the center of all of the Olympic attention and that if shooters wanted to make any gains they'd need to get the girls in the program somehow to make the IOC perves pay attention?  Have the girls pick up the empties ! ! !  Or leap to catch them ! !  Hey - we're talking IOC approval gold here.

Either adjust the mic, or line the bins with acoustic foam. Sorted.

Apart from triggering the mic, which would rightly upset the shooter, I’d consider most other distractions par for the course. Sure, bad manners persist, but it’s not like a personal dead quiet zone extending so many feet out from your shooting position is to be expected (although the front half of that circle tends to stay devoid of people). Crowds, fellow shooters and shots ringing out (on a shooting range even) shouldn’t rob you of focus, but if they do at least you have something to blame the miss on 😄

What     A     Bunch     Of      *******     !  !  !

You act like you're golfers or sumpin !

Just grow a pair and shoot the Foo King Target fer crissake.  It is a GAME, not a path to fame, fortune, or world domination

prolly not JMO

A game Charlie?!??? No no no.......I was always told trap shooting was serious stuff! 😂

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread. New DTL shooter looking for comment. Was at a club DTL recently. Normal set up and bins to the right. Once I’ve shot (and normally missed) I then wait for the person to my right to shoot before putting my cartridge(s) in the bin so as not to disturb them. The scorer, a very experienced shooter commented to me that I shouldn’t put my empties in the bin and it was poor form because I could disturb others shooting!? Are DTL shooters that sensitive and easily distracted?

What did the ref expect you to do with your empties?
You were only doing what most DTL shooters do.

Rubbish. You're being very courteous to the shooter on your right by putting your empties in the bin after they've shot.
If the 'bins' aren't of netting as many are and are made of metal or plastic just place the empties in rather than chuck them to prevent a clatter which could disturb the shooter following the person immediately on your right.
Back in my DTL days late 70's and 80's it was the norm to chuck empties on the ground in front of you.
What was the suggestion of the more experienced shooter refereeing.

The referee is talking nonsense. As Phil says, you're being courteous enough already.
For me, it depends on where the person following is in their routine. If there enough time before they have mounted the gun, I chuck em in then. If not, I wait until they have shot. But never when mounted and addressing the trap.
Another reason other than it being a distraction is that it the noise may be picked up by the mics and release the target.

What did they think you should do. Put them in your pocket?

Am I missing something here, shooters wearing ear defenders, guns going off at 150db, on a shooting ground with shooting all around them and they might have a hissy fit hearing a couple of cartridges tinkling in the bin?

The chap was only trying to be helpful. In fact he waited until I left peg 5 to walk upto peg 1 to quietly say something to me. He's a very experienced shooter.

It was suggested that I put them in my vest pocket until finished. Not sure if they meant the whole 25 birds or the peg - before I disposed of them. It messed up my shooting for the rest of the day. I think I just panicked. New to this, not that great a shooter, stiff gun to open and a pocket full of empties!

None of the squad complained and I was too panicked to even think about what they were doing with their own shells. Other DTL's Ive shot nobody has commented/complained.

The bins are plastic, low down and most have carpet in them. I've always considerately put the empties in the bin at an appropriate point.

Guess I'll just have to chalk it up as a learning experience.
