Just bought one of these not sure I have made the right decision, this one was made in 2007 when I asked the dealer (Hadfields Loughborough ) where there were made he said Birmingham, but reading some of the reviews on here say they are made in Turkey, don't get me wrong it is a very nice good condition gun, but it was not exactly cheap for a Turkish gun

So, the prestigious Webley name, was bought a number of years ago by a Turkish manufacturer and the brand now bears no resemblance, to the Webley we know and love.

The dealer would have known this.

Nice looking gun though, should do you right. Second-hand I assume?

Yes it's secondhand, but very disappointed the dealer did not explain this to me.

Colin
the dealer should have been aware that the gun was not made in the UK! As was said previously, I think the guns are made in Turkey, who exactly owns Webley these days? No idea! They are very cheap guns when new, so any dealer would know that its not possible to make a British gun for such a price!

It was my first gun,and I think the guy new that with my ignorance, it was priced up at £625 and because it was my first gun and

if I bought that day ( yesterday ) he said I could have it for £550, I asked him how old it was and he said after a few moments fiddling with it that it was manufactured in 2007, I have spoken to other sources and they told me it was worth no more than

£395 if it was in really good condition, many experienced shooters have told I could have got a Miroka for £625

Colin

what happened to the silma idea, there Italian.... Apparently

Ps

any smith will know they are not made in UK. He has in effect lied to you, unless he was 16yrs old and know nada in which case he just guessed

Yes you may have got an old miroku for that sort of money. The current webley is about £850 list price for a basic gun, so a nine year old one sounds about right at £400.

I'm not sure moving into shotguns as been the right move for me, with my pension it's took me getting on for 12 months to buy this W.S.

Anyone know when the W.S. factory at Brum closed down

Silma. Not sure it was the one one in the photo.

Here is the W.S. Classic

they lied on the ad!!!!! Its not English unless we all had wrong info on those guns. Check the proof marks

from what I can find out the real webley closed in 1979, later on the name was bought and guns made in Turkey. So yes an English name but not an English gun! However that doesn't make it a bad gun, but you can perhaps see why most of us say stick with Beretta or Miroku, they are a known quantity and so checking is fairly easy.

Think the original webley closed 2005 maybe only airguns by then. Traded out of rubery in Birmingham. The name was bought by  ex management who then whored the name to Turkey. Mrs jasper won one of these in the Mitsubishi competition. Had to wait ages to get it as they were apparently some problems at Birmingham proof house. Had it delivered to local dealer who punted out . didn't even take it home. So it may have English proof marks on it....

Still doesn't make it English though.

anyway it doesn't really matter it was a reasonable price so shoot and enjoy it.

Prob the best idea Ian. If funds are very limited perhaps its a good buy, mind you.....shells and fees will soon come to a lot more than the gun cost. Lets face it 100 birds and 100 shells could cost the thick end of £50.

If you are not happy and feel deceived by the dealer then go and see Trading Standards and see what they have to say.  If it was sold to you as British made for a higher price than its worth then you might be able to get your money back as its not as described!

I think, in the circumstances you could let us know the dealers name and then we can be sure to avoid him like the plague then perhaps he'll go the way that Webley went which is what he deserves by the sound of it.

The Webley you have bought was made in Turkey. They are imported by Highland Outdoors Leicestershire. Parts are a big issue , unobtainable for the older ones .

Highland Outdoors are trying to do a good job , but the Turks are Turks ! Rather sell new guns than supply parts.

I certainly would take it back and have a full refund if possible .

I think you were misinformed as to its origin.
