I know exactly what you mean pal. Its only when you think about it that you cant hit the proverbial barn door.

Yeah, sometimes I would be better off chucking the gun at the barn door! :.:

I tried that once but missed, i thought about it too much :)

Wez, you will be amazed at how much useful info is available on here! Not to mention how much fluffy rabbits! :.: :.:

Only been shooting a few months myself and had a couple of lesson's where i was shown how to hold the gun properly amongst other things. But on my own i was still only hitting around 12 from 50.

A friend who i met at one of the clay shoot's took me to a gun smith who adjusted my stock.

The first week after this i hit 25 out of 50 and yesterday managed 34, so very pleased with his work and only charged £65. The instructor also proved i am right eye dominent but i am left handed so i shut my right eye to shoot.

Well its been a while since I have been able to shoot but a friend and I went to Ashcombe yesterday. We shot at 60 sporting targets in the woods and I got 12 and he got 13 so we're neither of us much good and need to get some coaching. We also had a go on the Compak Sporting and did a bit better with 12 out of 25 for me and Mike a few less as I have shot this 4 times previously. What was very nice to realise was that you can just stare at the clay, not see your barrels or the bead and blast the clay to bits by swinging on true crossers. Where it is more difficult are the straight or quartering birds where you have more time when the birds are slower and you can find yourself eyeing up the bead. I don't know if its common practice but at Ashcombe but each stand was a repeat of the same pair 5 times. At Bisley shooting ground I remember there being more variety at each stand. It's so annoying when you hit the first one and then miss the rest - why was that - it all looked the same! Must find the time to get some lessons in!

First one you shot on instinct and let the old grey matter just get on with it, after that you tried to "see" the same thing and tried to override the brain, probably :) thats the thing I have to stop doing, the sub-concious brain is one hell of a powerful and quick super computer but for some reason I keep thinking I'm smarter than it :.:

Have done the same myself many times - and watched it happen on Saturday to someone on my squad.

I once had a lesson with a very learned coach - and he said that a huge amount of problems were caused by over thinking or over analysing, and the human brain trying to replicate what went before rather than be instinctive again. I know for myself that switching my logical left brain off and allowing my instinctive right brain out to play makes a huge difference to my shooting.
