At my local ground recently, I asked for some CompX 28g and was handed a box of their own brand. When I questioned this they said that they are “the same” and that “they make them for us, put into our boxes”.

Is this a thing they do, or was it pure snake oil 😂

Anyone can order direct from a cartridge manufacturer. You can spec your cartridge and printing etc . Subject to a large quantity. Lots of shooting shops and grounds do this.

You'll find most own brand cartridges are just a clone of a standard load but in a different case. Don't fall for the "loaded to our specific recipe" cobblers!

CompX are a very soft shell so it should be immediately noticeable if they're not what they've said they are.

As an avid cartridge cutter upper I can think of 6/8 different loads in my part of the world that are just rebadged. Sometimes at a cheaper price than the originals.

As I'm not quite as good a shot as uncle Ben cartridges are the least of my problems 👍

Quite, I'm brand new to this, I'm pretty sure as long as it goes bang any shell is likely to give me the same chance of missing. I'm pretty sure Ben could hit pretty much anything with pretty much any shell.

I'm wondering what makes a shell "terrible" and where the "terrible" lies, single shell, a few different shells, or everything from a manufacturer.

Not meaning to put words in Ben's mouth but when you shoot Black Storm all day long, a 21g Comp X might be quite low on the list even if it has it's place.

I always have a couple of slabs of Comp X knocking about - for those new to the game they are soft on the shoulder and more than good enough up to 30/40 yards. Personally, and this might be in my head, I think they are slow and I have adjust lead etc over an FBlu.
