Ips still alive and kicking !

"and shot virtually every species of gamebird, except Capercaillie" and for one moment I though that said caterpillar - and it flashed across my mind that even I could shoot one of those.

    How to shoot this…

Spaniel is correct. Assuming I understand what you describe the clay is not traveling fast. Ask yourself where it is at 25/30 yards - optimum for a 1/4 choke and then what movement there has been for the previous 10 yards or so. I would not be surprised if you see a slow quartering target...

    Beretta Stock Height

Explain please Ben. Probably should have said - for me.

    Beretta Stock Height

The 35/50 is very good but even then an adjustable to helpful re height and cast.

    Gloucestershire suspend all certificate applications

It's a very good point regarding cost- simply charge the amount it costs to administer then it can be adequately resources. The same problems exists getting probate - they charge £285 and immediately tell you it's a 16 week minimum wait. It's either they are charging the right amount and not...

    Gloucestershire suspend all certificate applications

I expect this will end up with an application for judicial review based on the Police failing to perform their statutory function. It's not where we want to be.

    FITASC vs Super Sporting

The reply was about as clear as mud. Is this to do with "Super Sporting" other "organisations" or the awarding of fraudulent titles". Its unclear due to the arrogant language.

    Caesar Guerini

Lakeside (Hadfield Guns) are CG dealers and have a few in. They are Wymeswold, on the A46 north of Leicester.

    Recommend me a 20 Bore

No harm in trying a 20 bore but i would be inclined to spend £2k or so leaving you the option to move (or add) to a 12 at a later date.

    Trap / DTL etiquette

It was nice of them to provide some bins that you weren't meant to use. I have always waited for the shooter next to me to fire and then immediately put the cartridges in the bin - noise or not. If that's not good enough then I'll find another discipline or someone else to shoot with.

    Pink Rhino Laser Training Cartridge

I can't see that that particular brand is available for a shotgun but I would steer away from them for use in shotguns for the following reasons, (within reason) the tolerances of the chamber of a shotgun is not material to its ballistic performance so the laser cartridge can easier sit out of...

    Comments on shotkam please

I don't have any experience of shotkams and can see their worth as a diagnostic tool - good points Robden. There is a risk however - are you able to identify & correct the fault and ensure you have the right long term remedy for it. For example what actually causes someone to stop the gun just...

Plastic or Fibre wad 24g or 28g 7.5-6

Plastic wads are meant to pattern better and more consistently. That doesn't mean it will the case in your gun. Plastic wads are also design for modern guns with wider forcing cones (18.6 to 18.7) to reduce recoil. Fibre wads are better suited to older guns with 18.4 bores etc. That doesn't...

    Ear defenders

Stiggers - They are a good buy and you can get aftermarket gel pads which make them a bit more comfy and a great buy.

    Ear defenders

First negative feedback I have heard for CFG but I would say passives for me from them so not a lot to go wrong. I went there from CENS whose customer care, from my own experience, is no better. The CENS experience was the main reason I was put off the electronic ones and overall I now have...

    New Browning release - 825

Clear Miss - You make some good points. I think Browning are stuck with a 100 year old design which they are tarting up for win new sales. Please don't forget they are a US company and that will drive their designs and material choices. In my view the SL2 is overpriced but at least Beretta are...

    Ear defenders

Over the ear - Swatcom. Fitted in-ear - Custom Fit Guards. Swatcom the best option if you don't have a problem bumping the stock.

    New Browning release - 825

The Browning website says - "Features all new styling, Fire Lite 2 Mechanical Trigger, enhanced controls, and the Invector-DS choke tube system." Looks like a rework of the "cack" in the 725 unfortunately. Officially its a "Fire Lite" not "cack" trigger so, Bebo, no future for you in marketing...

    New Browning release - 825

Well that is interesting but it will need someone clever or 'in the know' to explain the differences between it and the 725. Bite is still below the barrels and I'm not sure what the fuss is about the trigger pulls - needs explaining beyond saying they are reliable and pointing out the three...
