    The steel thing

Well, I rest my case mi'lord. It's the biodegradable wad that is the issue, not the fact that steel shot is more expensive than lead shot. At this time steel shot is slightly cheaper than lead shot, but the gap has been closing over the last year. Then supply and demand economics, if lead is...

    The steel thing

The white gold lead are £338.00 on just cartridges and the steel 28gm steel are £324.00 but as i say not biodegradable wads. you hope, hence hull cartridges say use a case length that matches your chamber length.

    The steel thing

Ben. High performance dark storm 28gm 7s  Is it just me ? but cannot find them listed on the gamebore website. However I do not believe either of them are using biodegradable wads, which for grounds that are fibre wads only are going to be required.

    The steel thing

However raw material cost is only just that, lead shot is produced in several EU countries and U.K., where as all the steel shot I am told comes from China, big difference in transport costs. Then it takes about 3hrs to make a tonne of lead shot but several days to make a tonne of steel shot and...

    The steel thing

providing you have been happy until very recently to pollute with single use plastic wads which will be around for hundreds of years in the environment however we in U.K. are trying to avoid that otherwise after any lead shot ban that will be the next thing on the anti shooting campaigners agenda.

    The steel thing

it will be a lot more expensive 😊

    The steel thing

The video claimed to use the same size shot for lead and steel, so obviously the energy in the steel pellet will be much less, is not the idea with steel shot you go up two shot sizes to then equal the lead pellet energy, assuming same terminal velocity. Wads are still an issue with steel shot...

Cartridges , value for money versus cost

We sell Fiocchi and they have yet to issue a new price list so 16% is rumours rather than fact so far. Continuity of supply has been a challenge due to the mess the world is in and demand for their products.

    Another old chestnut!

Actually i think you may find the CPSA insurance covers more than BASC now do, for example BASC insurance no longer covers you for legal costs if your shotgun certificate is revoked. I belong to both, a trade member of BASC. I do a lot of rough shooting and clay shooting but not competitive...

Cartridges , value for money versus cost

you have answered your own question at this point in time best value is Fiocchi which is why we stock and sell them. Next month or the month after that who knows.

    Another old chestnut!

target is more associated with rifle shooting, bad idea be proud of your history, stay as CPSA.

why is there a shortage of maxam powder

Nobel Sport already make lots of different powders like the Vectan range of powders some of which will have very similar burn rates to that of what was maxam e.g Vectan AS is very much like CSB5  probably Nobel Sports will just use the additional manufacturing capacity to make more of their...

why is there a shortage of maxam powder

Maxam powders by name has gone, Maxam Outdoors sold to Sofisport Sa the parent company of NSI so as a powder brand it no longer exists.  All  interesting reading, as empires are built. https://www.cnmc.es/sites/default/files/editor_contenidos/Notas de...

    Shot size, load and patterning

Geordieboy good to be anal 😊for I too have also done quite a lot of pattern testing, fibre wad cartridges and whilst it may not make you a better shot it does show that not all cartridges are equivalent in terms of pattern. A very useful tool for evaluating cartridges/chokes is...

    Nordic Clays

Lead Shot Ban, in news again

my favourite shot size for pigeons in my 28gauge is 😊6.5  probably have to limit lead shot to a maximum size 8 for clays. But even then on PW I have read in the past of 9 shot being used for decoyed pigeons. So 24gm maximum shot size 8 ? The other concern for clay grounds if the HSE...
