Hope so bullets arnt cheap anymore. Can't afford to miss.

1 dead charlie but at least .223 factory rounds aren't silly expensive like .308
Last factory lot I paid for in .308 were about £2 a bang. I much preferred shooting clays so never bothered going for my FAC despite passing the NRA safe shooter course and being a member of a rifle club for 2 years
Do you reload or just shoot factory ammo, what's the cost per bang on .223 factory these days?

Hey Jon. Used to load my own with nosler 50g b/t and federal cases. But time and moving house put pay to that. Now use 50g b/t factory round by Remington Seem to be pretty accurate and consistent straight out of the box.
The target was set at around 130 yds with a slight cross wind so was pleased with the results.

Optima. The rounds I last bought were £26.50 for 20 so it's creeping up in price all the time.

Last fox i saw really didn't like a 175gn bt .308 round that my mate had hand loaded and running at ~4000fps
Charlie copped for it at about 325yds and looked fine when we got to him, turned him over and there was a massive hole, that was the first time I saw how much power is in a .308

5,56 NATO is .223, the same as 7.62x51 NATO is .308!!! same/same.I use a 5.56 (NATO) chambered gun. It will accept .223 but also the heavier and longer bullets! This an Armalite 180B that is NON-restricted.It works well with the Leopold 8.5X20X50 at over 300M!
Any .223 will accept "the heavier and longer bullets" they however need a faster than standard (1-12) twist for bullet weight's over 60gns. My .223 has a 1-8 twist and shoots great to 600m with 75gn A-max's(the farthest I've shot it on a range day, but I know guys who have shot there .223's at 1000m very well) only thing is, at those ranges all the .22 caliber rifles suffer more from wind drift than the larger calibers.
Anyway, the point is 5.56 NATO is just the international millitery name for the .223

Well mine went bang and the fox dropped dead at around 80 yards so that will do me.
Have no idea about different names or numbers or twist etc mine does a job and does it very well.

You'll be very lucky to get above 2800fps with that weight of bullet out of a .308 Jon. Hopefully your mate had made a mistake on the velocity?
Have broke the mithical 4000fps with 55gn 243 and 95gn 260, both lightest for caliber bullets, with pressure running has high as I'd dare push it, not keen on sticky bolt lifts and popped primers!!!
