A good shot will beat a lesser shot using 24g V 28g, a really good shot will beat a lesser shot using the lesser shots ill fitting gun but all things being equal 24g will cost you between 2-3 birds per round, some may well be on the closer targets so I wouldn't say distance is the factor rather the reality of some 100 fewer pellets meaning less margin for error.

They held a normal Reg shoot at Wylye Valley a few years ago. Mandatory 21g shells. Ed Solomons HG on 97 I recall..

ang on 3 birds could be enough to keep me at the top of the lowest class whereas 28g and an extra 3 could put me bottom of next to last class.....on that basis I will use 24g ?

I think it was actually a 95 by someone else but restricting the shoot to the same cartridge weight won't prove anything since you're always going to get a winner and their score is invariably rather high.

The biggest handicap to shooting 24g instead of 28g is knowing the other guys have 4g more pellets in each shell than you do...

Over the course of a 100 bird shoot thats a lot of lead that hasn't been used by you but has been used by your opponents.

Think how absolutely sick you will feel if you score 99 x100...

24g will prob improve your scores, less fatigue, less recoil so second shot is easier, Will is right, generally a better pattern - lets not go down that road! And Dark Side is also correct, its a mental thing, if 28g were banned tomorrow scores would be exactly the same. I used Hull Sovereign 24g and they were pretty awesome, should go back to them really and save the neck

Totally agree. If 24g is good enough for edge on going away stuff, must be OK for everything.

Should be made compulsory for all disciplines IMO.
