Don't worry too much about age with a second hand gun. The serial number will give you the year of manufacture but obviously not the year it was first sold and these can be quite different. It's more about condition than age when buying second hand.

Sound advice there mate! I have seen three year old guns that have shot loose due to very heavy use and also neglect, but I have also seen twenty year old guns that are almost as good as new due to light use and good maintenance!

Hands up who can remember fields full of "New Cars" outside the car plants then, they were all new also, so of them had stood there for a couple of years aswell. :roadrage:

The dealer whom you brought this from should have known how long he had his stock and reduced the price accordingly!

Unfortunately I can!

Agree with all the above - it is condition, not age that matters.

The dealer ordered it in for me direct from Browning. It was they who had had it for 4 years.

Blimey. Did they reduce the price then?
You're having a laugh. The bloody thing went wrong after only 3 months when I was away on holiday so was not in a position to return it to Browning for repair. I had to get it repaired locally to where I was staying which cost me £40. On my return home the shop where I bought it from tried to get my money back from them either in cash or kind to no avail. I then phoned them and spoke to their gunsmith who eventually after calling me a liar among other things and telling me that it was my fault that I had the problem agreed to send me a pair of firing pins. When these didn't arrive my retailer asked David Stapley, Browning U'K's Sales Manager to phone me ,which he did. He apologised for the way that I had been spoken to and promised that my firing pins would be put in the post. Three weeks on I am still waiting. The problem was a bottom firing pin which was jammed out and therefore made the gun unusable. It was initially thought to be rust but was actually caused by an undersized striker channel.

A brilliant product ruined by a crap company who appear to place customer satisfaction way down their list of priorities.

Wow, a big company like that -I am very surprised at that customer service! I would have expected better from browning!

Hey, Live and learn...

It is worrying when you hear stories like this especially if you happen to own the same make of gun :) I have to say though I love my gun although I have only had it three months it shoots brilliantly and I am not the only one who thinks that. I will just have to hope there are no issues, does have a five year warranty though. I must say though going off topic a bit here but I bought a BMW GS1200 thinking what can possibly go wrong with a bemmer they are bomb proof... oh contraire! I joined a BMW forum and all you get is owners coming on with tales of woe some of those tales very expensive to repair!! So far I have no problem and I think it highlights a problem of joining such a forum, very seldom do you get owners posting about how great their bike is and that they have never had a single problem with it, although there must be many who have had nothing but pleasure from their particular bike! I am sure the same must apply to guns? So why don't we have a my gun is great and I have never had a problem with it postathon? I'll start both of my guns are great 687 and XTR never had a problem with either! By the way my Browning was bought new but was made two years ago !
