I have to agree with PP and partially with Hammie on this one. SOME cartridges just do NOT suit some guns ! The most technical piece of equipment that I used to arrive at this conclusion, was, my EYES ! (before I had the eye problems BT). Many years ago I bought a used 20 bore Beretta that was 'original' in every way ? I took 10 different brands of 28 gram plastic wadded cartridges and a tin of whitewash to a local ground's pattern plate. I fired a minimum of 5 of each make at the pattern plate and the difference in patterns/brands was astounding. Only 3 of the ten brands threw acceptable patterns. Now I did not take into account the weather, temperatures, wind direction or even what colour socks that I was wearing, just the holes big enough to put a football in, on the pattern plate. THAT was the last time that I went near a pattern plate, with any of my guns and I admit to using any damned cartridge that is cheap and readily available, but I have had some VERY chippy breaks with some and the occasional drop in scores too. I made a point of avoiding that brand in future. At present I am using Cheddite cartridges in both 12 and 20 bores and a mixture of plastic and fibre wads. They seem to perform well enough (in MY guns), are clean, not thumpy and a decent price, what is not to like ?
