Hi, do any of you shoot at either Barbury or Coleys? I’m not a competition shooter but like social round of sporting clays! If anyone fancies a meet up, let me know.

Hubby and I shoot at both grounds (inc todays comp at Barbury) Both grounds great but too far for us to go to for just a ‘practice’ etc. Good luck

Have you really looked at competition shooting? Sounds daunting perhaps but really isn’t. For many it’s just a round of clays. You’re in a squad usually so it’s not unsocial and no big crowd watching you. Everybody is supportive. I’d say half the shooters really aren’t fussed about the competitive element. It’s also a great way to shoot decent clays for a decent price.

Coley's is my closest ground and their new clubhouse and facilities are superb, although parking can be a bit crowded on shoot days. I've shot there many times and for a few years I was a regular at their Thursday pay and play evenings, but now I rarely shoot practice because with comps you get more for your money.

Barbury also has a really nice new clubhouse and, as with Coley's, there's an on-site gunshop. Prices and are pretty similar between the 2 grounds and both are rightly popular, not just with serious competitors but also the leisure shooters like me.

Hi Will, I do need to just get on with it and enter a competition! Just need to rip that plaster off!

I like both places or though when I was looking for a new shotgun recently I felt Coleys a bit snobby, considering I have purchased a couple of guns from them. To be fair it was just one of their staff! Left a bit of bad taste! Barbury are very relaxed with a great atmosphere.

Yep, we all went through it. I was nervous for my first registered, as although I'd read up on what goes on, was it going to be "too" serious? Nope. Introduced myself to the rest of the squad, explained this was my first registered shoot (in fact I dont' even think I'd shot a local club 100) and got on with it. Everyone was really helpful, had a laugh on the way round, and I've been shooting registered comps ever since. Think I only shot a 45 for my first one.
Shot my first dozen or so without knowing anybody, but you soon get chatting, and it wasn't long before I started shooting with a regular crowd.
Fairly often you'll get a squad than just clicks, and everyone makes plans to book on the same squad again for the next shoot.

My wife and I was bought a gun fitting from coleys, although mine was fine she needed a bit of adjustment, when we got it back it after they serviced it as well it would not shoot on the bottom barrel, real gunsmith had to sort it.

Recently visited Barbury for the first time and I loved the ground. Been shooting for about 2 months now so not too long but would similarly enjoy finding company to shoot with.

Perhaps sign up to a competition together as Will has convincingly suggested

It is nice to buddy up and go shooting with a mate, especially in the early stages of your shooting career, but that's not always possible for me so I'm not averse to going on my own and, to be honest, have had some great experiences shooting with strangers in squads, usually you end up having a bit of a laugh and get to know new people.

Give me a shout next time you’re going, I’ll see if I can make it. 🤙🏻

Although today at Barbury may not have been the best day to do it on. 😅

I don’t mind shooting on my own, just nice to have someone to chat with and take the piss out of each other.

I'll take a leap in the dark and suggest that the course was set by Huw rather than Josh...
I did ask the ref on stand 12. She said Josh. I think sometimes course setters just think they will up the game a bit today (and possibly over do it).

Was it the conditions? Or just set a bit tougher.
So windy! I dont think there was one stand that wasn’t affected. On last stand on the platform me and another lady couldnt keep our guns steady and I was trying to push one way and the wind was taking it another!
It wouldve been a great but a bit tough shoot if not so windy, but thoroughly enjoyable all the same. Made even better by a great journey there and back!
