I know very little about autos, but does anyone know if one has ever been made that ejected downwards rather than to the side? Is it even popssible?

I think Remingtons 105CTI also ejects the spent cartridge downwards, not 100% on that though Les, I had a UGB for about a year it had a few issues that eventually got ironed out! The later models may be more reliable it didn't like 24g, but when it was working it was great.

I seem to remember guys saying that their autos didn't like 28grm when they first came in. They seem far more popular in the USA than they are over here, I understand that a lot of the Yank skeet guys love autos, but the trap shooters don't seem so keen though! The UGB certainly looks odd though, a sort of break barrel auto, very strange. I've only ever shot one or two autos over the years and they never felt quite right somehow, but then I'm a trap shooter! :D

Yep - a guy on the squad in front of me at the Beretta World had one of these.... was odd to see a gun spitting shells downwards, but then being broken to reload... I had to ask someone what gun it was, had never seen before.

I was told it was developed for trappies in the US to shoot with? Not sure of that...but it seems possible.

Beretta UGB excell did. When it wasnt busy breaking...
Hahaha oh yes....my hubbys lasted for one competition of UT before it fell apart.....ho ho ho.

Hee hee just remembering the muttering to himself during the last round of the day with the swinging adjustable comb.

Not my cup of tea....vicar.

My Beretta 390 will cycle 28/24g all day no problem. I think your still allowed to use 32g for NSSA 12g that's why they like their autos, they will then change to an O/U for the smaller gauges.

Until I did the post I had neither seen one or heard of one!

Several autos did not like the transition to 28grms if they had been used to 36grms. I remember Manuel having to move to a new gun when his had problems recycling at Fitasc.

Give me a release trigger any day over an auto.

(my opinion only....before I get dived on by some passionate auto users)

You know you like to live dangerously Nic! :D

A friend has a B80 and that certainly ejects sideways. The B80 is a Beretta 303 clone which differed only in woodwork and chokes which were Browning.

I shoot a Beretta AL391 Urika Teknys, got into it by accident.

The UBG is a semi auto designed for trap, only holds 2 shells but is breakable which is ideal for trap. I have shot one a couple of times but wasn't really impressed. Yes, you can break it which is great and take the weight off on your foot which is ideal for trap.

For me, they appeared and then rapidly disappeared due to relibility..

My brother loves his autos, he had a Remmy first but soon chopped it in to buy a new winchester sx3, the sx3 was a good enough gun but very cartridge sensitive, he's recently changed it for a wooden stocked Beretta 391 30" and it is a lot better gun, better built, more reliable and will cycle any 28 gram shell. He loves them but they're not my cup of tea.

You're right I got my models mixed up.

Les

Been a few over the years I seem to remember but IMO all been orrible. Just my opinion but I dislike the look and the whole concept of auto's. I cant see the point of restricting yourself to same choke for both shots. I dont like the sight picture of an auto and I dont like the clangy nature of all that mechanics going on. There was an argument for there use in the 80s when we were shooting 32g as they were ideal for anyone who was recoil intolerant (my mentor shot a remmy due to a shoulder injury, he was late 60s and had farmed all his life) but no need these days due to lighter loads we are all using.

And as for this beretta thing that is an auto but wants to be a "normal" gun what a horrid horrid thing, Just my opinion of course.
