Beretta 694. How ... , please?

Just bought a Beretta 31" 694 Sporter with adjustable comb: "only fired 75 cartridges." Immaculate condition, excellent wood, 'glass rod' trigger pulls ... very pleased. Now, how do you get the matt black tape off the barrels, please?

Usually a hair dryer will help to soften glue and tape.
But where and why is this put on the barrels?

Just peel it off, it should come off easily if its the light blue tape.

You're right, it's peeled off (but was so well applied that it looked permanent).
