Chippy, i will give you some of my "Special Fibre's"...........

:fie:  When i read some of these posts I realise how many knobheads there are in clay shooting!  If its felt wad only and the rule is vigorously applied with any culprits

named and shamed then whats the problem?

I'm sorry if  have an overbored gun but you bought it! if you are so against fibre wads don't shoot the shoot!

If everyone is using fibre its a level playing field!

Yes it's a level playing field with fibres. Doesn't really worry me (gun needs a bit of a clean after..).

And thank you for calling many of us on here knobheads.

Never been to Bisley either Steve, shot 100 birder club shoot at 'Bisley at Braidwood' a few weeks ago in a strong wind, good targets, had to work a bit for 72, HG was 81, next to that was a AA shot with 78

Steve,

Yes it can be a seriously good shoot, terrific clays of the Crane, last time I shot there was with  AJ & Jo Marsh so it will be difficult for me to get my self together there.

As for the fibre wad debate I remember Jo using some Hull Sovereigns and the performance was astonishing. So perhaps if we all used a Bisley supplied fibre shell we could cut out one source of moaning.

Could this be a John Heagren benefit shoot? Only if we let it.

They held the Classic FITASC there a good few years ago, Arnie set the Targets, I was manual trapping. It's got great terrain in the tucked away spots.

I have only shot the police shoots and one or two club shoots. All good if a touch soft. Good terrain. Fantastic geographical position and the home of the CPSA. It should and could be superb.

Best of luck! (And I've got some fibre Hull Sovereign that I bought for about £160 years back.) :)

I learnt to shoot at Bisley SG and have been the top lady member there for many years. They have a monthly club shoot and, at that, my average was consistently 10 more than my CPSA average so you could call it soft. Targets suitable for skeet chokes. However they set it that way to keep the majority of members, and newer shooters, happy and coming back for more. They can put on some great targets and will crank it up for a registered shoot especially if John H has anything to do with it. Excellent refs but don't expect it to be cheap. Looking forward to it.

Problem solved, the now called Olympic Blues are also available now in felt, and by such popular demand ELEY have promised the plastics and fibre wards share NO difference in performance .........! so that should exclude the mind game of shooting a fibre ward..............!!

I have been to Bisley  a few years ago,, are there 2 sporting ranges? I was at the Siberia range, lovely grounds. I think there is also an area by the clock tower? which is the likely ranges? thanks.

I assume by the clock tower, as this is where they hold the club shoots (or did) and the police shoots. Also it has the parking, reception and shop to hand.

I am confused!  I have shot Siberia which, as has been said, is lovely.

The high tower beyond the Bisley Clock tower looks to be in the dead zone for Century Range so I can't see that shotgunning can take place unless shooting on Century range is curtailed, at least on the targets nearest to the clubhouses.  I can't see the NRA agreeing to that on a weekend without substantial compensation having to be paid for the loss of income from Century range.

Of course I might have it all wrong!

Walk past the clock (clubhouse and shop behind you). Keep slightly left and after about 300 yards you are at the ground. North/ north west of the skeet ranges. I'm not sure where the rifle bit is, but further west if I recall. Have a look on bingle earth.

They tend to shoot at Long Siberia in the summer months. Something to do with the rifle ranges been used more in the summer. However, the Clock Tower range is much better IMHO

Yes I can see it now sandwiched between the 1200 yard Stickledown range where the furthest firing point is by the clock tower and the dead area behind the butts of Century range.  The dead area is there in case anyone puts rounds up over the top of the butts.  You will see from a satellite view that all the ranges including the army ones at Pirbright all point into the dead area.  This is reputed not to have anyone in there for decades due to the danger.  That's why I am surprised if the high tower range is used very much as I can't see that the NRA can allow shooting of clays and rifles at the same time.

I have never heard any stories of rounds going over the top at Bisley but no doubt it has happened.  I recall being told that a round went over the top from Pilning Down range which overlooks the Severn at Aust or used to if its not there any more.  Anyway the bullet hit a double decker bus the other side of the river Severn in Chepstow!  Nobody hurt but a shock for everyone concerned!
