Glen,

Exactly, we would hand the trophy over to the most consistent shooter who had done all the qualifiers and shot to the best of their ability on separate occasions, not just a one off. Plus hopefully it would stop the moans of 'northern/southern/midland specialist, it was windy on my day etc., etc.,'
Then dont bother going and hand it to George, Ben or Faulds.

Nobody other than a professional will win the BO over that many targets. You would never stand a chance again.

At least when it is first past the post then somebody who is not a professional can have a chance and make a name for themselves if they shoot well on the day.

Maybe bring back the Superfinal but more than that and what is the point. Too much cost and time just to hand it over to the pro's. It is hard enough for someone to get close as it is.

Glen.

It contains the word "OPEN" which means it should be open for anybody to take a chance of winning, not a selection shoot to see who is the best over a number of courses.

It's open for everybody who wishes to take a punt on winning.

Open means everyone can enter - they can enter over multiple shoots or a single shoot in exactly the same way?

This is the BO - surely the winner should be the best in the country?

Man you guys are crazy the CPSA can't organise that it will never happen.

First things first, we need the BO restored to its former glory.

100 Sporting then Qualify in Class for the 75 target Final and maybe a superfinal top 6 at the end overall.

You really felt good if you qualified but it needs the sponsorship. A lot will not be able to remember Somerly House and the Embassy and Sky Sports.

This is where it has to be at nothing less, it will never be the same for me until it gets back to where it was.

Last time I did a BO was Hodnet and that was Qualify from the 100 then the 75 etc I qualified in AA which was not easy and I felt I had achieved something.

Wont bother with a BO again until the format and the standards change, waste of time and money.

As we know some top guns will walk away from a one off shoot if they start badly, so if they have a bad day on one of the shoots and know they can't win they are more likely to not bother with the others so it would not be the most consistant or best shooter so it all comes back to pot luck and who turns up.

The second/third shoots would also be a bit like a handicap as some will have to make up shots on the leaders,as i take it it would be a final score ex 300 or how ever many shoots it would be over.

With selection shoots they tend to drop off in numbers towards the last shoots when people know they have lost their chance......sad but true.

I have always thought that a super final of all those who qualified in their class would make it more of a spectacular .

I would have to agree that a single venue logistically sounds right, but no matter where it is we will always get moans.

A final 75 would be brilliant with a super final of another 25, but (a) we need a good sponsor and we then need to look after them.

Or ( B) would you be prepared to pay for your extra 75 & 25 birds if you shot well enough to qualify?

Its not a 'sporting' ground , the lay of the land and lack of interest by the ' Owner ' means its always going to be nothing more than a lackluster boring sporting shoot + wind effected on certain days .

It wont be there again anyway

Fingers crossed Doveridge or Hodnet show interest in one of the big sporting comps next year
Well i didn,t enjoy the open either, but that was because i shot it on the saturday afternoon in that wind and along all the waiting and queing it did spoil the day for me personally ,but to say that lack of interest by the owner means it will always be a lackluster boring sporting shoot,is way over the top, mike faux has invested a lot of time and money into fauxdegla, it may be primerily a trap ground, but it also has some fantastic topography making it capable of putting on very good sporting shoots, though perhaps not over 4 days with all the variable weather you can get up there, and at the end of the day like already said it,s really down to the course setter not to put targets through the sun or floppy targets off the top of a mountain. I must admit i felt sorry for mike,s wife with people complaining after the shoot on sat evening, but had they shot it on any of the other days or even sat morning, perhaps everybody might have been singing their praises

Yep - I have to agree - Mike was very active at the ground on the Sunday when I was there and even came to give one of my squad some thanks for making the trip to shoot the event. I don't think this represented someone who had a 'lack of interest'.

Pretty much agree with Optima. As I have already said fantastic scenery and a decent bit of ground for sporting clays. Good facilities with noticeable recent investment. It was just the targets and the queues that really got me. As Optima notes, another day, another time it would have been OK but no more than that

Perhaps if the owner had set the targets he would have been able to get around the wind affected targets as he obviously knows his ground. The queues were nothing to do with him, it was the referees and the obvious lack of communication back to the chief referee to make him aware of the developing problem.

Thinking back on it the targets that I most missed seeing up there on the moor surrounded by heather were a real quick pair of simo grouse, either walked up or driven, and how about a white mountain hare popping up above the heather.

I am afraid you will always get somebody moaning it is a walk of life.

People will always enter some will enjoy, some will not and have a moan.

As they say "you can please some of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time".
