A question for the conersers ?

Thinking of buying a 1969 Browning A1  the gun has had one owner from new

looks superb  there's a box of spaires with it /fireingpins ejectors ect

 Anyone have any views on how much would be a fair price for it ?Any other comments would be appreciated

Not sure if it makes any difference but the gun and l are  I'm Oz at present and the gun should be staying here awaiting my next  return visits

Condition is everything on these.  Prices tend to reflect that and also the configuration.  

I say tend as there are some knackered dogs for sale at silly money and some gems at little money. 

Also look for any signes of refurbishment. Plenty have been and very rarely done well.

A 32" minter with trap would may well tempt someone to give you £2000 for it, a collector may pay even more. Most tend to be 30" and even dogs seem to fetch £700 approx.

Depending on condition/action tightness and grain of wood I'd say probably around the £1200 mark.

I could be wrong, BUT I do not recall the early Brownings having chromed barrels, I would suggest that it is unlikely because the early Miroku guns were not chromed,  and I know that for CERTAIN !

I used to specialise in used B 25s!  I never seen or heard of any with chrome barrels?  A 30" A1 Sporter  should have a schnable forend, no trap pad on the stock but a black bakelite browning pad! If it has a trap forend it's a trap gun! Most trap guns had a  7/8" wide rib in general but I had one with a half inch rib (rare) All B25 Sporters had half inch ribs! if the forend has a bolt through it it's pre 1970?

Did they make the Sporter version in `69 ? Only ever seen 70`s versions but interesting to know !

Not that I know of? 1970 the B25 was "modernised" done away with the pin through the forend and also put the year of the gun in the last two numbers eg  XXXXS73 denotes 1973 gun. The top strap on earlier B25s had a step in it modern ones don't!

Need pictures. Yes there have been a few with chrome lines bores. I have seen b25 C3s and A1s with them but they are very rare and the exception.

Through the mid to late 60's a number of changes were made. The narrow rib guns went from a slight ramped design with round posts to a flat with diamond shaped post. The wide rib Broadway) stayed the same. The top tang was also changed from a y shape to a u shape in the late 60's. A  1969 A1 trap will have either 30 or 32 barrels  a wide broadway or narrow rib were options on the 30" guns but only the broadway on the 32"  The top tang wil be  a U shape and have the crossbolt through the fore end. Stock should have a drop of 36 at nose to 41 at heel. Unless a trap gun has been sporterised any other specification was made as a standard model (game amd sporting were the same I believe all with narrow ribs )  

Chokes should be as indicated on the barrels 3/4 and full or full and full for trap . 

Midi ribs and dedicated sporters were defined later. The fore end attachment was as said redesigned and the cross bolt removed around 1970- 71 ish. The trigger mech was also changed to mechanical from inertia at the same time.

Not all browing changes were made at a single point of time and appeared as old stock parts were used up.

 intreaging this A1 does have Chrome barrels 

1/4 &3/4 chokes I believe 

Very lightly used to today's standards 

Any further ideas on value ???

the original owner  had also the original lacour removed in Belgium by Browning and replaced with oiled Finnish 

To me as a layman it looks pretty good and very lightly used 

I'm not out to steel it you understand  just wish to pay around the right price but unsure what that is
