Iam going on a hare shoot tomorrow and I find 1/4 choke is fine with 36 and 42g 4s out to 30 /35 yards.

Hare shoots are popular in East Anglia, In some areas they are an agricultural pest and Farmers want them removing, they are legal quarry like any other so shooting them justifies no revocation of a licence.  They are also delicious, it's no better or worse than any other pest control and so long as they aren't in an area where numbers are in decline and the meat enters the food chain I can't see an issue.  

It's not something I would enjoy but many do, to suggest that someone needs their licence revoking for participating is all a bit RSPCA.. I shoot two Hares over the course of the last year which was enough for my requirements, I really can't see an issue.

While I wouldnt go on an organised driven Hare shoot I know of a farmer down in Cambs who is so fed up of the Hares on his land attracting unwanted poaching etc that then turns into thefts and break ins, he just shoots all the Hare he can and gives them to the game dealer. Without the Hare on the land there isnt the attention from the travelling community, the police to date by the sound of things have been poor and I dont think it would suprise anyone to hear of countryside crime being low down on the list of prioritys for the police.

Even then ⅝ would probably cope, I went on a couple of 'High Bird Days' and ¾ and ½ was enough, I think people over choke game guns as the new cartridges pattern tighter.

I have shot a few hares they squeal like babies  never again ,  I get my fun from wounding clays  , they test me fine .   each to their own . !

I have never injured one, both were clean kills, but apparently the noise if you do is haunting
