Classification standards?

I was told by my 3 mates, 1 of whom works out of Newnham Park that I have impoved a lot since we last got together before Xmas. 

I have been shooting more, partly at Two Bridges and partly at Ashcombe.  We shoot both Compak Sporting and English Sporting at Ashcombe but they are not interested in scoring just practising so we don't bother.

I reckon I am hitting about half or a few more of the targets but of course they are now familiar!  It was nice to be able to tell one of them how to hit the high tower driven midi & standard when he asked and then he did!

I am booked in to do the Growler at Ian Coley's to see another ground and some different targets on the last Saturday before my hip operation after which I shall be retired and keen to get stuck in after recuperation. 

The Growler will be a good test!

If I can get to another ground like Podimore, Southern Counties or Wylye before then I will.

And therein lies the best point here - being told by mates is one thing, but knowing you are improving is even more satisfying.

(good tip for keeping score when your mates aren't whilst practicing - every time you miss, stick an empty shell in your 'other' pocket)

Hi guys,

Relatively new to clay shooting but have shot for about 13 years predominantly game and vermin.

I've take a real interest in clay shooting recently and often come across classes such as:

A

B

C

What do these actually mean?

If you wish to become registered to a class how would you go about it? I'm quite interested in the competition side of it as it seems to be like a handicapping system so as a relatively new shot I would have a chance?

Have a chat with us on Thurs when you come - we can get you started with competitions and tell you evrything you need to know. Carl who is instructing your other half is the Chairman of the Notts CPSA and the Vice Chair on the East Midlands CPSA (myself and John, who is also based with us, are both on the committees too). Between us we can advise you on club, county, regional and national shoots.

Really glad you are interested in taking up competition shooting and you are in an excellent county that will help and support you.

I quite like the idea of doing a competition but am not so keen if I am just going to get my ass handed to me (excuse my french). Only been shooting ESK regularly since the turn of the year and best round is a 21/25 which I am guessing is likely to be C class?

Was interested in doing Bisley on 23rd Feb but alas I have other plans thats day.

CPSA site. Click on scores. Then enter either a shooter, or lower down a ground. Simple. But you need to enter 'national' not Bisley..

Nice one. I was there earlier but didn’t see the 2nd search for Grounds. Good spread of scores so I wouldn’t look totally out of place. Will have to sort myself a CPSA membership out and get signed up for the one in March.

I think newbies often fear that a competition is some elite thing. As you say, many levels of ability present and the better shots will almost always encourage newcomers..

We sometimes do have a go days or free coaching for new Berkshire shooters.

At the minute it has only gone out to people who have given us their email address.

Remember we do not know who you are until you contact us because CPSA will not give us the list of our own members....due to data protection.....so unless we bump into you we do not know that you exist.......MAD isn't it??

Also if anyone has any good straw ballers in Berkshire will you let me know because we want to let all our shooters know for meet ups etc etc .

I started on my local club comps then, got the bottle together to go CPSA lots of different targets, lots of different grounds and you get some dollars back if you place in your class - now I go back to my local club and feel at home and go for the big scores more targets you see the better, my first shoot i broke 56 at kingsley which i was chuffed about ---- and there started the journey first win B class at shoots, second get to A class next win some A class, next AA etc. etc. Don't forget get 2000 shots off a year and shoot as many grounds as you can, and there is your real average! - oh and then there are the chokes, carts, etc. etc. enjoy - i am off for a lay down as the next shoot is not till Sunday.
