Good article in Clay Shooting about the Clever brand by Don Brunt.

Does anyone have experience with this brand and what is your preferred cartridge?

I have tried and like the Grand Italia any opinions on the T2?

Interestingly Don commented about the quality control and attention to detail being very good. Sadly something that I am finding lacking in Eley Olympics, which at £40 a thousand less is not economic to have nearly 200 per thousand with problems, low primers, hard primers, bulged crimps, crushed brass.

I feel like dumping all my rejects back at the factory but I don't think Eley are bothered.

where can you get them from?

i shot some freebie T3's a while ago and they were great shells

im tempted by the T2 or the fiocci stuff if i can find it at a sensible price

T2's are a good cartridge, at least every bit as good as Olympics, I'd say better.

Never shoot anything else other than olimpics, never had a single problem!

I too have used several thousand Eley Olympics as have my friends and never had one bad cartridge between us.

Maybe you were unfortunate to have a bad batch,Salopian, which is not acceptable and you should take them back to your supplier.

Vic.

Many of my mates shoot them aswell, including international shots never heard of one single problem

out of 5k olympics had 2 misfires and 4 bulged crimps, not too shabby considering out of 100 various fiocchi i tested for Don I had 8 misfires

As you might surmise, I use Clever. Big fan.

To repeat what I must have said many times, the T3 are wonderful, a bit pricey and probably too good for most sporting targets. The 7.5's pattern incredibly tightly, so the kills are stunning. I went to T2 when the prices went up which pattern a bit looser but very well. Think Hull pro one for a lot less money.

There is a cheaper shell, the Supertarget or T1, which is really good value at £158. I have tried the 24 g versions which pattern very well.

As ever availability is everything with carts. EJC stopped stocking clever, so I went direct to continental, the importers and bought a lot to avoid a delivery charge.

Been using olympics for over two years now, patterned them at Carl Bloxham's showed good patterns through my gold e and only ever had one misfire.

I had a lesson with Carl a while back. He gets you to shoot a pattern plate to establish that your combo is ok. He proudly showed me his eley superb pattern and then looked a bit surprised when my Clever pattern was more even and tighter.

I use Eley First 28g 7.5 and to all intent and purposes it's basically the same cartridge as the Olympic. And at only £145 per 1000 is a bargain. Incidentally I can also purchase Olympics at £150.

I have used these cartridges for a long time, T3 and T4. I get to shoot all sorts of different stuff and always come back to Clever products. (I'm not on a retainer by the way). Go all the way and try the Bol D'Or, smooth, very hard hitting, consistent, a pleasure to use really. About the same price as the other premium stuff like Black Gold, Supremes etc. but a lot smoother than either of those.

It's just that though, they showed good patterns and are readily available, not saying i wouldn't try clever but whats the avilability to get hold of some locally with out having to buy loads to avoid delivery as they may not suit.

Locally Olympics are only £1 a thousand dearer than First's so thats why i use them instead, as i would say Olympics are closer to Eley blues than First's as they are the same speed etc according to their web site

Clever really need another distributor or two in the south. I have nagged them about it and mentioned to a couple of dealers..

Martin, I will flog you a few at the 1000 rate if you want to try some.

Hi, i used to use a lot of 24g T2's when I could easily get hold of them. I think they are a really smooth cartridge with good killing power for DTL, ABT and first barrel for Olympic Trap. I wish I could get hold of them at a reasonable price in Essex.
