Is it something about me or is Nic just always right! The new format was brought in to yes to create interest but yes also to negate an TV audience from dropping off in an endless shoot off fest for the medals, They saw it coming and thought we can't have it if we are to find a time slot for Trap shooting.

Yes Nic I am new to shooting not only OT but trap in general but you know something to debate you require something you do not possess. On any other forum your replies would be treated as trolling... true story... just saying!
I really do not know what your problem is. I gave you good information. It is up to you what you do with it....as it does not really bother me.

I know now that i must resist from answering any questions you may have in future because of the fact that i may be right and for some reason it seems to irk you. Others say the same thing as i do.....but...never mind....as grandpa troll knows best....I will leave you to it....true story..!

I only shoot sporting & will probably be happy for that to continue, 28 gram works just fine for me & lots of others. My wife is 5ft 2ins, she shoots 28gram also, we don't think we suffer from recoil issues. Self abuse, now that's a whole different discussion.

Suggestions of Trolling :haha:  .

I stumbled across @ when she responded to a genuine question I had in the Newbie Section. My initial reaction to her unhelpful comments, was that she was arrogant, derogatory, belittling and uncaring. However, since then, I have read many of her posts and have changed my mind.

I think she's intelligent, knowledgeable, honest and of course the most obvious, she's opinionated! So what changed? Simple........the more posts of hers that I read, the more I learned a little about her sense of humour and her honesty. I actually enjoy reading her posts and seeing how people respond to her. I can almost predict the response by those who take the bait she casts. I'm not sure she was Trolling though......that made me laugh!

When you debate on a public forum, expect to get people's opinions, if you don't like the opinion, you can't berate the author for responding (you invited the response).

My opinion about @maddmatt 's question is no, the sport should not be proactive surrounding concerns of long term recoil injuries etc. The government already acts like a Nanny state and we don't need anyone else looking after us. This is not a compulsory hobby, we do it by choice and should do so accepting any such injury, while mitigating any risk as best we can. As educated people, we accept the risks of driving a motor vehicle and take our own precautions. We don't need someone to tell us that in order to protect you from injury, we're changing the law so that maximum engine sizes will be 1.1 Litres. Not every driver crashes, not every clay shooter suffers recoil related injuries. Quite often, the fault lies with the individual, not the equipment...............they were always destined to be statistic!

Not true I'm afraid, Interesting point on health and safety in the UK, the only reason eye protection was made mandatory by the CPSA was their insurance company, after several claims the insurer made it mandatory for all members to wear glasses, so, what happens when some shooter gets klonked on the head by a clay and he decides to a) sue the ground (yes this has happened across the pond) or B) puts an insurance claim in to the CPSA? What probably will happen is, the insurer making it a mandatory condition of insurance and we will all be wearing hard hats in no time. Therefore you cannot accept responsibility for your own safety AND be a member of the CPSA for instance.

Don't get me wrong, I detest HS interference, I do not see the need for eye protection to be mandatory and in certain weather conditions glasses can be detrimental as you can't see the clay that is heading towards your head! 25k cpsa members and less then 5 claims for clays hitting people in the face. Yes I have heard all the stories of, "if I hadn't been wearing glasses I would have lost my eye sight" well go complain to the course setter for being an idiot!

To be fair glasses are common sense - it's not just clays that can blind you. My husband pointed out a shooter he knows to me who lost the sight in one eye - he was hit by stray lead - true story as Nic would say :) . Point of interest on caps - we wear them but my husband removes his sometimes when he overheats but on Sunday the ref asked him to put his cap back on as his particular stand did seem to attract clay shards.

I am incorrect in thinking that you are reminded quite often by signs at registered shoots and schools to wear glasses, ear protection and caps. surely in order for insurance to be effective you have to mitigate against injury occurring. I think I have gone off topic - sorry.

Well as a tarpie, I wear a cap and glasses for a totally different reason! The glasses are of a colour that help to pick out the orange clays, the side blinders help to block out distractions from the side and help me to focus on the desired area, the cap as far as I'm concerned helps to reduce any glare from above if shooting without a layout cover, it also is an aid to focussing on the disired area. So with the side blinders and the peak of the cap, I am pretty much forced to look at the correct area without worrying about visual distractions from the sides or above.

Les53, i'm pretty much the same, wear glasses and muffs all the time and a cap to keep glare and rain off my glasses. Regardless of whether i'm claying, pigeoning or game shooting.

Wow only just seen this and its very interesting first off nic is right straight at trap are perfection not the norm and take considerable skill on the day to achieve. Lowering shot and more than 24 would achieve nothing ot is hard enough as it is, nic is also correct re the difference between a Sunday comp shoot and a selection or major there is no comparison.

Forgive me i am on a mobile and about be bothered looking back but someone referred to nics posts and the true story is she says it as it is some think its arrogant (i did at first sorry nic) but she understands a lot about the sport particularly at top level and any new shooter would do well te take her advice. There is a huge amount of knowledge on this forum nic is one of many.

Ps- i would not like to shoot anything less than 24g at anything.

24grm for OT is fine by me, but next year they are messing us about yet again!!!! No plated shot next year, so my recently found favourite shells, RC Supernik and Fiocchi Golds, are going to be banned!  I'd rather not go back to Excels now I've got used to the new ones, so I, like many others I guess, will have a winter of shell testing coming up!

Sellier & Belliot ... Just saying!

Gold Medal winner in Bejing.. True story ... Just saying

on the rules subject does anyone know if it's against sporting rules to dry mount your gun outside the cage before you go in to shoot ?  I was told last week I was breaking a rule for doing this but were they right ?

Dunno about that mate,we tarpies don't need cages to keep us in order! .!!

No problem on English Sporting....but do it on FITASC Sporting ...even in the car park and you will lose points. It is definately now allowed.

8.2 No pretence/mock shooting is authorised on the shooting ranges or outside. If

a shooter, before calling “ready”, engages in mock shooting (e.g. shouldering
the gun and following the theoretical line of the target trajectory) or fires a shot
involuntarily, the referee must give the shooter a warning. After the first
warning, any further occurrence is scored “zero” for the next target hit.

Also with regards to ISSF rule changes next year re shot....it is for plated shot only, not coated or gold washed shot....as far as i understand. I will ask the questions.

Cheers Nic it will be nice to know! I wonder if any new shells will appear, or maybe they will just re sell some existing shells. I've grown very fond of RC superniks and also fiocchi golds to a lesser degree, sorry about that Nic!!!
