4 months to process a renewal, no changes, no problems getting hold of referees...just 4 months!!! Strathclyde last November-Febuary

West Mercia is the second biggest next to the Met.

They used to quiet bad , inefficient and obstructive.

I am very pleased to report that after a change of staff and a re-organisation, they are absolutely brilliant. Super, very efficient, polite and courteous.

I helped Maxum with his issues some months ago with Staffordshire but unfortunately due to staff cuts Staffordshire are struggling, they are trying to do a good job in the face of adversity, massive workload and minimal staff.

Perhaps if the Crime Commissioners gave it all to Group 4, none of us would have to worry as they would probably lose the lot.

So the message seems to be that the police are doing ok and not as bad as what people may want us to believe??

I can only comment like I said above....the service for me was excellent (after having a polite conversation explaining what I needed).

I wonder if all the people writing about this in the various magazines are being paid to write the articles......and have to write something....or if they have had bad experiences of their own or nearest and dearest. All the column inches that I have read have not related to any specific person.....just generalisations.

Bit like the severe weather warnings on the telly now when we get a bit of wind or snow :)

I am most probably wrong....us women are always being told we are ....... L. O. L.

My initial application was lost by Kent police back in 78/79 so had to reapply but ever since each renewal has been handled efficiently and courteously. They even let me collect my first FAC licence in person from Maidstone to save me from ruining my pants I was so keen. :D  I have been on first name basis with our liaison officer for years, just reinforces my personal belief that we don't have it all that bad over here.

Never seen the same liaison officer twice in twenty years of holding a licence...

my first time application took 9 weeks all in from west yorkshire police.

could have been a week or so sooned had i been available when the chap wanted to come round (having only given be 2 days notice of when he would like to come round and it had to be between 9 and 5 monday to friday only!!!)

they quoted 8 - 12 weeks so they kept to their end of the bargain!

Surrey Police took less than 2 weeks.  They sent me a renewal form 2 months before my license was due to expire and I was the inefficient one and left it to the last minute to renew.  They were very polite and helpful considering.  My gun is on my husbands license too so I was covered when it ran out.  The reason I had delayed was because I was in the process of buying another gun ( I had damaged the barrels on my gun).

When we bought the new gun (while waiting for my certificate) we put it on my husband's license and sent the paperwork to Surrey Police.  Having explained our intentions that it was going to be the gun I would shoot, they added it to my new license before they sent it back.  Very helpful and efficient.

Always good to hear tales of extreme efficiency combined with good, polite service. How it should be. :)

Leicestershire, first application, 3 weeks from posting to landing on the door mat, and that was about a month ago!

Have to agree with Gnasher about Surrey firearms dept, got my SGC exactly 2 weeks after posting the application, when my lovely FEO came round for the interview,he expressed the opinion that it should have just been granted and sent to me as I already had an FAC,he also mentioned that he was a bit worried that they would be merged with Sussex, which are about the worst in the UK!

Mine took 6 weeks & 2 days - Lincolnshire police (well, G4S to be precise).  Not bad considering they quoted 3 months to begin with.

I took my FEOs advice and nattered them once he had been to see me and they got it signed off quickly (Nice one Phil, a good bloke) which meant I could pick up my guns for Xmas :D

Mine took a few weeks for a renewal. It doesn't really matter whether it takes months though, I just keep my old certificate until the new one comes. The NLFMS shows me as a certificate holder and I don't need it to collect cartridges.

Ours just took a little longer, but still not bad. As Phil said, Lincs Police told us about 3 months, but we got ours in 8 weeks.

That includes a check at my doctors, despite that I've never suffered with anything physical or mental. I only found out because my doctor sent me a letter saying that as a result of a Lincs Police firearms check, according to my records, I was due for my Wellman check-up.

From FEO visit to cert through letter box, only 2 weeks.

As I say, well chuffed as all our plans were based on the 3 months quoted.

Just got mine back after 4 days because I forgot something on it :(

It does fill be with confidence thougg as the waiting pile cant be that big! :D

West Mids got mine sorted in 3 weeks from posting to receipt of cert.

The FEO did say though that their admin function is being transferred to Staffs in the near future, Staffs are already into backlogs of several months so that can't be good.
