When the first DT11s came out for a trial I was given one to play with for a while for Shootinguk.
What with all the talk of fibre not working because of the aforementioned reasons I thought I'd put 250 Hull Comp X 21g Fibres through it at the same time I put a lot of other mixed stuff though it. 21g/24g/28g/30g/32g with a mix of plastic and fibre wads. I acquire a lot of odds of cartridges in my job.
Using Wylye as a test ground along with a difficult local FITASC ground I set too to settle my own mind on the subject as I was considering buying one in the future when all the dust had died down.
I have to be honest and say that apart from the recoil differences and the 21g sounding a little poppy rather than a good bang there was very, very little difference in it. Sure I could near smoke the 65yd crosser with half choke and a Black Gold plastic 28g but the 21g fibre broke it very well as well, even with the 1/4 choke.
I noticed no real difference in speed or delivery as it were, just good breaks. I knew the 21g was easily capable of doing this in a conventional shall we say gun as I've used them since they first came out. One of the tricks I'm often asked to do at Wylye when I feel like it is to shoot the long crosser on the bank with a 26" skeet gun and Hull 21g fibres when someone is struggling to hit it and complaining about the target.... :haha:
However over the years the mental side of shooting is fixed well and truly fast in my head and I do not think about anything or any cartridge whatsoever...just the target itself. Trees, grass, weeds, flowers, dirt banks etc, they all blue sky to me as I only see the target.....it really helps. :spiteful:
Must be my poor performance ! No excuses
