Yes Fortis Mark - there is also 100 Sport Trap as well I believe.

Eddie

On the Sunday 25/5 on CPSA fixtures it says sport trap as well as the main competition. I thought I saw it on Southdown fixtures list as well but can't open that up at the mo.

Looked again at cpsa and it shows sport trap on the Friday and Saturday as well.

11am Sunday for me had to get a later squad just incase to bail out Ed from his night out on Saturday

Anyone know if there is any space left on Friday? Just blagged a day off work and itching to get out and remembered this was on!

Well, here we are, day one and the moaning as started.

Goodness knows what is going on but Ben H and Ed S  didn't seem to like it and already the CPSA is coming in for criticism. See Ben's Facebook page.

With refference to Ben H's facebook page.

WTF is the ref asking about the kitemark on a shooters glasses for,and asking them to leave the cage.A CE mark is probably more likely these days anyway.

The CPSA only RECOMMEND a minimum of BS EN 166F in the hand books,so it up to the shooter how best he/she wants to protect themselves, and what glasses they wear.

As for the weather that will always play a part in a competition that is run over x number of days.Looks like Sunday is going to be the best day.

As for ED's comment, surely overhead targets should never be set so they fly directly into the sun at anytime of the day.

I was in the group in front and this kite mark thing did upset them all , we were talking about it with them on route to the next stand . Incidentally , the gent with the alleged dodgy glasses had bought them at Bisley

If I recall correctly I was in a small minority of those who praised Southdown with their April selection shoot and again their South East of England shoot on the 5th of May as neither in my view deserved overt criticism. My post on another thread today was/is not aimed at rubbishing the ground, even if I did make a light hearted reference to low scores.

I haven't booked in for this shoot but feel perfectly entitled to comment here regarding sun affected clays because a couple of years ago Southdown were guilty of the same error which resulted in some people not being able to even see what they were supposed to hit, when I complained about this many on this very forum seemed to think that darker glasses, baseball caps or standing differently etc, would have helped - seems not if you read some of the feedback from more revered shooters !!

You can't change or predict the weather but not throwing high clays on sun affected stands is elementary stuff. I really hope the weather improves and the remaining days produce trouble free rounds and less criticism for this ground because it almost feels like a witch hunt at times.

Unrelated to this event.. Perhaps.. But throwing a clay through the sun at a proper shoot is an unforgivable offence. Any course setter that does so is an idiot and should be lashed. EJ Churchill had this issue a few years ago and now work hard to avoid it. Most of the ground faces south so it's a skill, but they prove that it is entirely possible.

To put a bit of balance in, there were some really nice stands set up today.

What ruined it were the couple of reeeeeally stupidly thought out ones. A lot depended on how the light was when you shot the stands, but when the two guys in front of me never fired a shot at a target (orange midi stand 7) and I never saw 2, you have to have a long hard think about who set it up and decided it was a good bird.

The overheads were unforgivable; if clouded up like first 3/4 of shoot it was a gimme stand, but when the sun was out it was genuinely impossible.

Add to the fact the totally random nature of the numbering on the stands (doubling back on yourself, non sequential numbers, big gaps) and on one stand we had next door birds landing on the rabbits we were shooting, it wasn't a great day out. Weather is uncontrollable but some of that today was dire. Imagine how long it will take the poor sods over the weekend when there are full rotations- I shot at 3 and have just got home!

Hammy, I've still got to shoot this (Sunday) so will reserve judgement on the shoot til after then.

The comment above was in reply to sloppy ones post about Ben's fb page and the comment on there about questions asked by the ref about glasses and there suitability and kitemark etc, there is no rule that i can see that states what glasses should be used, just a recommendation so it has got jack s**t to do with the ref what people wear.Until the rule book states a certain ballistic approved eye protection is to be used it is down to the individual what they choose to use.

Of course your entitled to your opinion on sun effected clays,or any other subject, like you im not rubbishing the ground as i said i still have to shoot it yet.

There is no danger of the sun affecting any targets today. It's persisting down.

More likely to be asked if your life jacket is up to spec. God help anyone with just a flotation aid...

shot this yesterday in some arduous  varying weather conditions, and to sum  it up, the word frustrating would be the polite description..... why do thing's go so wrong ? squad time's failed big time ! issues with target visibility ! why so many targets carrying the technical label (easy to use this, description, when good combinations :fie:   are lacking ?)  issues with stand numbers ! fence posts in front of you when shooting low wind affected targets ! our squad had one member who had his slot on the master score card filled in before we had even shot !(so incurring more delays at each stand ) shooting ground choice on a bank holiday weekend where the drive home time can treble !

you can't help feeling it could and should be a far better experience, for the time and cost involved , all the above bar the weather could have been a lot better,

Mark Winser carding a 98 can only be described as incredible, in what ever conditions he shot in, this may in a indirect way mask over a lot of what was poor at this venue/major ?

To have the mind set to cope with days like this , is a thing only so many people have, unfortunately yet again I have to admit .... I aint got it
