Phil Coley said  " I am probably having a bad hair day ".  Once again taking the topic off at a tangent. I think we would have to have a very vivid imagination to picture that.

So in an effort to get us back on track and discussing eye dominance in women ( who incidentally hardly ever see things from a Man's perspective, but that is another thing entirely).

Perhaps you may find the following read interesting.

Very good article, I have had to read all of this stuff as suffered from varying eye dominance so used a small ocular blinder, after a year of using it was fed up a few weeks ago so shot without it and I will continue to do so, I see the target bigger and can read it better with both eyes. Pointing at an object, it always went to where the right eye is looking, so perhaps it was tiredness or hangovers causing the eye dom problems. Now I know I can shoot well without an ocular patch on glasses I have the confidence to continue this way.

Clanchief,

thereby is a clue that is often overlooked in shooting vision issues.

For some time you have shot with a blinder, and the right eye / brain has built up a memory  library of what looks and is the correct picture, thus enabling you now to shoot with both eyes.

This may explain why people with a wrong eye dominance even when fitted with an eye patch will tend to shoot up the dominant eye side of the target until the brain computer as 're-booted' itself.

I don't need re-booting.....i am perfect

Tin hat.

I am left handed naturally, definately left eye dominant but have to keep both eyes open to hit anything, tried closing right eye but miss a hell of a lot more that way round, but then probably hit more with both eyes closed!

I am perfect also and I dont care who knows it :)

Vciki and I have taught 1000s of shooters and each have in excess of 29,000 hours of teaching experience as professional coaches....written 11 books with 3 more coming out this year.....when we began 20 years ago the current science was that dominance was fixed at 18 months.....now the current science is that it can change and few if any people are strongly left or right eyed....most are some where in the center .....we concur with this finding and find that trying to "not look at the gun" as the gun comes into the picture really does strange things visually to shooters....

interesting thing to us is that it is always the non shooting eye that confuses the issue.... we have found that simply being clear to the brain what it really looks like will allow for the brain to begin the suppression of the information from the non shooting eye....neural suppression is what dominance really is....Vicki is left eyed and shoots right handed with both eyes open and I am right handed and right eyed and have with Vickis help trained myself to shoot from either shoulder which comes in handy when demonstrating shots to left or right handed shooters.....if you can look at the situation from a different perspective it will help if you have a dominance issue....rather than getting the gun in front and not looking at the gun focus on looking at the target behind the gun as they come together.....this will change the way you look at shooting and eventually the brain will suppress the confusing image and it will look normal....hope this helps

That statistic again. This time it's up to 80%. I bet we see articles with 90% by the end of the year.

Lies, damn lies and statistics. There's a lot of old wives tales in shooting, as time passes more and more get exposed. I think Westward touched on it elsewhere with current advice ;) , it often turns out to have been best avoided. :D
