I don't doubt that we all have our favourite cartridges that we feel we always shoot well with but these days our choice may be as much influenced by the price as by the performance.I guess that competition shooters who stand a chance of picking up a few quid in prize money may feel justified in spending £200+/1000 cartridges in the hope that the perceived extra performance  will get that one extra clay required to win.The rest of us have to make do with what we can afford so do you think that a high priced cartridge is really that much better than the choice at the lower end of the scale, are there any really bad cartridges out there nowadays? My 'favourite' cartridge is whatever has the right price tag and is locally available. That means I use Eley Olympics at £160/1000 or Rio 20 and Kent Velocity at £150/1000.They all work for me, if I was a registered shooter I would be at the  A/B Class border line. Vic.

For Skeet I use Gamebore Super Steel 9's 24g (About £128 per thou) For sporting etc. I use either Hull Pro fibre 28g 8's or Gamebore Blue Diamond 28g 8's fibre. Jon.

I have some Olympics in 28g 7.5 plastic which I haven't patterned but they shoot well enough and the price isn't bad at all.I've currently got my foot up on a stack of shells and they are........Saga Eurotrap 28g 7.5s. What's that I hear you say? "Rubbish", "Junk" "Blah blah blah"?Well they've changed them. Full length 70mm case and a new recipe apparently. I'm mightily impressed with them, even in fibre.  Nice and fast, not thumpy and yes, I have patterned them (through Teague chokes) and I haven't seen better patterns from any other shell. If the cases were red they'd be even better./wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif

Just recently ive changed over fron hull fitasc to fiochi trap, they patton fab and kill the same at distance.and at a differance of 60 pounds per 1000 this is worth the change over.

For the umpteenth time, you wont beat Clever T2 in many respects. They pattern and shoot like a Hull Pro One for £25 less per 1000. CSC3

I shoot Hull pro one 8's for most things, also carry a few soverign 7.5 for anything edgy or distant and a few 9's for really close stuff, shot through half chokes nearly all the time. I also shot hull's comp-x 7.5's for a while to see what they were like and I have to say bloody good, kills at distance didn't seem as good as the pro ones but that could of been me. but over all very good and at around £150/1000 not to priceyWinchester winner 8's are probably the best cartridge I've ever shot and were about £96/1000 when they stopped making them :(

Eley superbs for me now. Used to shoot eley fitasc shells but far too pricey nowadays./wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-frown.gif

Winner 8's, wot a great shell , loved using them and winchester Blue Light's for long stuff. Alas , long time ago now.

I think 1 larger than life shooter from west wales still has some Blue lights but he wont part with them

We buy in bulk, usually between 7 & 10k at a time.  Price is always the deciding factor.  This time the best deal we could get was on Fiochi Top 1, 7.5's 28g.  I really like them.  I have been using them for about a month now.  They are soft on the shoulder like hull comp x and I have been breaking clays well.  This weekend I got my PB, which was 45 ex 50. We used to drive 45 minutes to an hour to get to Countryway in West Malling, Kent, for a good deal on cartridges, but a new shop opened in Catsfield, near Battle, East Sussex.  And a little Gem it is.

Fiocchi Top Ones for me. Great value shell, good breaks if I point the gun in the right place and no heavy recoil. Ticks all the boxes IMO

I like red ones with black writing on them. I find they work the best.

CSP competitions from Justcartridges are mauve/purple - I quite liked them until a lady shooter at Valley View told me they matched a pair of shoes she had.
