Blind testing is the way forwRd. Bar recoil you won't know any difference in kills until you reach 60 odd yards and then it's only minimal.

First off I ain't that good anyway, but my 2 pennies. I've tried pro 1, black gold, superbs, soverign etc. Did my scores go up? Nope. Why? Because instead of shooting every week sometimes twice I could only afford to shoot 3 times a month.Remember not so long ago glen did a test on steel and the one he favoured ended up to be the cheaper end of the scale, and he is quite good.Find a shell you are comfortable with in performance and pocket and don't listen to the cartridge snobs :)

I'm currently waiting for my SG certificate to come through so I have to shoot whatever they have for sale at the club. So far I've used 3 different types of 24g but still managed to average just over 95% at DTL. I bet if a blind test was done it'd be very close, unless of course the shells were different colours...../wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif

We have mentioned this a few times on this and other boards. "What is the cheapest plastic wad and the cheapest fibre wad cartridge currently available that will do the job in 28gram?"Money IS tight for all of us so let's find the best value for money cartridge readily available to all of us and kick the cartridge manufacturing cartel hard in the sphericals. As I have repeatedly said, I cannot for the life of me understand how Ladd's can sell Nobelsport  imported from Italy cheaper than what Hull, Eley, Express, Gamebore can supply. Has anyone noticed that it always seems like it is Hull who are first to raise prices and then the others follow suit?

If I had the spare cash I'd buy 20,000 now as it's only going to get worse. Kibworth have a number of olympics at 165/1000 and in bulk I think they would go down to 155, in 7.5 and 8, 28g plaswad. That seems like a good price given everyone elses pricing structure.

And i don't think there is a 28g plaswad that WON'T do what it is asked for 99.9% of what we use it for nowadays.

I cant tell the difference from the lower priced cartridges from the higher priced ones, the only thing I know is that they all go bang and spit out lead /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-embarassed.gif... So until I become a expert I'll  stick with Eley Olympics /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-wink.gif

I don't think you can beat Olympics for value, I think they are a great cartridge. However buyer beware on some of the budget cartridges from some other big manufacturers, put in different boxes/names; some of them go with a 'hell of a bang' I'm sure shooting a couple of thousand of these brought on my tinnitus. When talking to Barry Simpson about this he reckons that some cheap east European powders are being used.S

ok , i pay £41 for 250 28g 7.5 hull comp x plas wad and £46 for fibre I would love to find cheaper but nothing local

I think maybe  a cheapish cartridge and a tight choke gives you the tight pattern at distance we all  want to achieveI use Noble Prima 28G 8,s they work quite well for me they are middle range in price about £164 per 1000

We buy in bulk, usually between 7 & 10k at a time.  Price is always the deciding factor.  This time the best deal we could get was on Fiochi Top 1, 7.5's 28g.  I really like them.  I have been using them for about a month now.  They are soft on the shoulder like hull comp x and I have been breaking clays well.  This weekend I got my PB, which was 45 ex 50. We used to drive 45 minutes to an hour to get to Countryway in West Malling, Kent, for a good deal on cartridges, but a new shop opened in Catsfield, near Battle, East Sussex.  And a little Gem it is.
What price do you get for buying 10,000 ?

we bought 20 thousand between us and saved just over  £20 per thousand on just carts prices on Eley, delivred to the door.

Yesterday I shot 4 different cartridges, all 28g fibre. Gamebore Blue Diamond 7.5 & 8, Gamebore White Gold 8 and Lyalvale English Sporter 7.5. Prices per 1,000 varied from £190 down (!) to £150.Essentially they all performed identically! So, how much are we paying for advertising and pretty plastic to throw in the bin? I know I won't be paying for the most expensive any more.

Sorry I only just saw this.  We paid, and I'll confirm with my Dad who holds the kitty, £151 per k.  At the time I think he had them at £164 for a thousand in the shop.

Top One fibres.. Possibly the worst pattern ever generated by a shotgun cartridge. Dont fire one at a pattern plate, it looks like you have tossed a lump of clodding mud. You will be bemused that your ever break anything. (Unless they have improved them massively recently). Actually, let me clarify that. I only tested the plas wad version. Usually the fibre version of any cartridge is worse, but perhaps not.. CSC3
