Fibre Cartridge Recommendation

In four weeks time I will be shooting a large corporate Sporting competition at Woodland Pursuits, in Surrey. The rules are that fibre cartridges must be used.

As I normally only shoot plastic, can anyone recommend a decent cartridge?  I seem to remember I shot with Hull Pro Fibre last year.

I will only need a slab, so price is not a major issue.

I've just finished a couple of slabs of Sovereign fibre, and I must say I was very pleased to see the back of them. I have no problem with pattern or cleanliness or anything connected to their ballistic properties. It's just the dam' things didn't fit properly in my gun!

No kidding, the majority of these shells stuck in the chambers when loading, and on closing the gun the cartridge in the upper chamber would stay proud, clonking the upper surface of the breech and  endangering the blueing. Around 5 of every box was a little tight in the chamber generally, most of the rest were tight on the brass.

My gun is a Blaser F3, naturally I tried these shells in other guns. They were a bit tight in my Beretta 686S, too, and astonishingly in the 1892 Greener depicted in my avatar. The same problem was evident in a 20-odd year old Browning 325, A Browning Ultra GTi, and a 1902 Lancaster.

I shall not be using these shells again.

I'd give them another chance this year, on the other hand Sovereigns are fine as well (bit heavier on the shoulder), I haven't experienced anything like Charles did - must be the batch thing - I'd make sur to turn them in in case anything isn't in order.

FreeShot you're right I should have taken them back, laziness prevented it.

I'm now shooting odd boxes of stuff from local shoots as I'm carefully avoiding having a stock.

Quite impressed with the Greenfield Atoms I tried last weekend. Otherwise I've been using Express Sporter and I quite like them too.

I shoot nearly 100% fibre and did a long term test on all sorts over a period of more than a year, and the winner is.......... in my signature   

Hull Superfast! I've found them to be the best combo over-all having tested all sorts.

I must agree with the Superfarts, but I have recently tried some Comp X and have to say their performance is equally as good AND a bit softer on the shoulder too. I no longer shoot Comps., but would have no problem using either of the Hull or the Express Power Gold in 24 gram Fibres.

The Comp X was one of those I tried. A mate swears by them, but I just couldn't get on with them. You're right though, they are very soft on recoil, the 28g feels like a 24g or less.

Hull Pro fibre are lovely. The 24g work brilliantly and are very soft. If you don't mind a bit more recoil (but still not bad) Gamebore Velocity fibres are great.

The Velocities were another on my trial list, and yes they were very good but as Will say's they are quite thumpy. I also found them to be a bit dirty too. I've not tried the latest version however.

Cheddite Universal Trap 28 or 24gr .Smooth ,effective and sensible money.

Olympic blue in fibre have been great.

Cheddites for performance , quality and price .

Express Supreme for the very finest quality fibre cartridge, when only the best will do .

I have shot them for more than thirty years (maybe 40?) I think they need rebadging Express Super, Superb , Supremes (costly but brilliant )

Best I`ve come across as an all rounder !

Not harsh at all & have yet to find their limits !

I never use fibre myself but all my mates say pro- fibre are the best they've used.
