Got a box of Evo 24g fibres to try. Can't be bothered to pattern them, (as only for local shoot and for Mrs Clever) but will try out on targets and offer my opinions..

I tried a box of the 24g 7.5 evo plastic wad and really liked them. I went back and bought a slab straight after!

Would like to try the white gold 28s now though....

Gamebore Evo's.

I've been using them since getting back in to the clays, they're a nice cartridge to shoot, my previous cartridge of choice were the White Golds but as the shop didn't have any White Golds I thought I'd give the Evo's a try.

Nice and smooth to shoot, throw good patterns through tight chokes (3/4 full, fixed choke gun) the pattern boards showed a nice even spread and not a heavy centre biased pattern. Tried the pattern boards at 30-40 yards.

I paid about 180 for a thou of 28gram No 8's plastic wad from Garlands. I've been using them for sporting and DTL.

I used some Evo 24g fibre 8's on some basic clays this morning. Balls of soot and very soft recoil. Perfect for the Mrs. (Probably perfect for me too..)

Spoken like an expert with years of experience!

He may be wrong? :haha:   :haha:

Went out this morning and shot another 100 gamebore evos. Really clean barrels after and very reasonable recoil. which is probably all I can comment on at the moment as I'm still a beginner so wouldn't have a clue about patterning, etc.

Also tried a box of 25 eley Olympic 28s. Didn't feel much different to be honest! Haha!

Yeah, I agree that the Evo's shoot clean through the barrels.

I think the Olympics give more 'thump' to the shoulder if I'm honest, a mate of mine uses them a lot and rates them highly. Nicely priced too.

I've fired 200 of my initial puchase through chokes ranging from skeet to 1/2 and find them a very good cartridge, very clean as well!

You lot referring to clean - are you talking about plastic or fibre? I have been shooting 28g 8's in fibre for the last few weekends and I like them but they certainly are not clean.
There is no such thing as a clean fibre cartridge, as inevitably the barrels will become smeared with lead. The best you can hope for (with fibres) is only that. With some, especially Eleys, you get horrible crusty deposit around forcing cones, which can happen with fibres or plas wad. That is tough to shift by hand scrubbing.

Hmmm that sounds very much like what I have with the Evo’s. Don’t recall Gamebore Velocity in Fibre being so bad although different gun now (692 as opposed to 682 I had before). I did a pull through with a Hoppe bore snake, put some Clenzoil solution in for about 10 mins, few patches on a brass jag then finally a bronze brush and still didn’t get all of the fouling off.

I use a wire brush (full chamber brush type) on the end of a rod. Soak with Napier spray first. Stop when your arm gets knackered!

Last time I used Eley fibres I put cleaner in for 10 mins scrub with bronze brush, run a few sheets of kitchen roll through. Then tried bronze brush in drill forward and reverse action, more cleaner then pushed through a couple of patches soaked in cleaner left it over night then scrubbed with bronze brush following morning... Nasty stuff! Was like trying to remove tar

I've been using Evos (28g plastic 8's) through my 692 for a couple of weeks now and really pleased with the results. Don't know if its the shell or me but the recoil seems nice and smooth and my scores have definitely benefitted.

Only downside is they do leave a lot of crud/plastic in the barrels and they really do need a good scrubbing afterwards. It doesn't bother me as I'd be cleaning the gun anyway so it doesn't deter me from using them.

Interestingly when I put the same shells through my Benelli they hardly leave any dirt at all which leads me to conclude that 'how dirty' a cartridge is is very dependant on the barrels they're being put through.

There is definitely something in that iggy. Noticing far more crud in my 692 than I did using Evo’s in my 682. Was chatting to a few 692 owners on Shooting Times forum and they found similar with other carts like Hull Comp X – although we are all using fibre.

Possibly related to the longer forcing cones? Who knows but glad it’s not just mine. Will keep using them as readily available from last remaining local shop to me. The 8’s seem to give good kills.

What are you paying for 28g plas – the only place local to me now is doing them for £178 per thou and £186 for fibre? Seems ok and still cheaper than Just Cartridges even before adding delivery.

Interesting to hear that P1, like you said I'm glad it's not just me as I was starting to wonder if I'd got a dodgy batch of Evos or they we're damp or something? Having said that I'm very happy with how they perform and having put in my two best scores to date using them I also 'believe' in them if you know what I mean.

That's a cracking price you've got, the best price local to me is £185/1000 for plastics so if you're getting the same for £178 that's good going.

Going back to the Evos I suspect you are right about the longer cones but I suspect the problem is the 'standard' 12 bore bronze brush just isn't wide enough to make good contact. I'm wondering if I should get a 10 bore brush instead and see if that gets them cleaner a bit quicker.

shot 750 of the evo 28grm 7.5s plas wad. so heres my 2 penneth. smooth shooting , the kills are superb. after 1k of eley superbs i would say the evo's give better kills. nothing more then 1/2 choke required. my regular cart was eley olympic but the evos are smooooother and give better kills.... have  experienced some quality issues with eleys of late and so looked for a change. the evo is a very very good shell for the money. . mrs jasper says the 24 grm plas wad  7.5 is soooooo smooth compared to the eley first 24grm and she  is shooting very well with them. so order in for 4000 more . should see us thru xmas.
