It’s 100% crystal clear the government do not want the public owning firearms.

Quite, but I will never understand the constant attack on legally held firearms. It's what, under 1% (guesstimate based on loose figures I can find) of all firearms offences are related to legally held firearms, and that includes things like incorrect storage. FEO finds the cabinet unlocked, oops, firearms offence.

I can't follow the line of thought that increasing restrictions on legal owners helps in any way to prevent crime from illegally held firearms. I guess it doesn't, but it makes headlines that *look* like they're doing something to tackle the problem.

Seen a few references to it now, and can only assume it will be exactly the same as for current FAC rules.

If so, how good or bad is that for clay pigeon shooting in particular?

Section 2.3 in the response document linked above, quoted here:

2.3 The Government takes the view that shotguns are no less lethal than other firearms that are controlled under section 1 of the Firearms Act 1968, and that it is right to look again at the differences in the controls and whether it is sensible, in order to address the risks that shotguns and firearms present if misused, to consider greater alignment of the controls. The Government therefore intends to issue a new consultation on improving and aligning the controls on shotguns with other firearms. We intend to publish this consultation later this year.

As a result of this whatever the outcome there is a much bigger picture that reaches beyond us certificate holders.What government can ever justify to the public the thousands of jobs that will go with this.Less people coming into shooting or giving up equates to everything from cartridge manufacturers, gunshops,gunsmiths ,clothing suppliers,shooting grounds and clay manufacturers just not being able to survive.

Bloody new hurdle after new hurdle I have four years for my certificate to run then I will be 72, I will not bother to renew my certificate then I am sick of all the bother.

Of course , if the Government banned firearms with only certain categories of user remaining , they would have to pay compensation as they did with handguns , semi automatic full bore rifles and all their accessories . That model could be astronomical for shotguns in particular ( 3 pairs of Purdy sir ? ) . If you make the hoops increasingly harder to jump through , then it’s the individuals problem to dispose of their guns , at prices which would reflect the circumstances i.e. rock bottom or nothing in a market that’s diminishing.
