I'am currently awaiting approval of my shotgun license,

but have seen a gun at a local shooting range for sale that I'am really interested in.

can I legally purchase the gun to use at the range only until my license is application is  processed ?

I really don't want to miss this opportunity !

You can't be in posession ( control ) of a shotgun without a licence.

Just put a holding deposit down. No gun worth its pricetag is going to have a queue of people waiting to buy it. Look at guntrader there are hundreds of guns on the market very few get sold in less than a few weeks.

( Although my CG Summit sold within 24 hours of my advertising it, knew I'd priced it too low! )

Thanks for the feed back Nimbusgb,

But rather than using a hired gun at the shooting ground could I not use the shotgun for tuition purposes only ?

The gun would be held at there premises  until my application is processed,

By all means leave a substantial deposit on the gun but you can NOT 'buy' the gun until you have a Certificate. If you can reach an agreement with the Shooting Ground and they have the required Sec. 11a exemption certificate for the ground, they may allow you to use it there until you can legally own it. You could also ask them to show you how to clean and maintain it and get them to chuck a cleaning kit in with the deal. Good Luck with the purchase and enjoy your shooting.

NO your name must be on it...........that means a license.

If the ground holds it for you it will cost a bomb !

Ammo,

There are numerous ways to do this.

You cannot legally take possession of a gun (purchase ) unless you are a certificate holder. But you can pay for it and have it entered on a friends license, they can then take it to a ground that holds a Section 11-6 certificate which would allow you to use the gun under supervision .

Thanks for all your help

just put a deposit on a beretta 692
