Does anyone know of any gun storage companies in Kent? Storing a gun at home is not an option and the only place I can find at the moment is Greenfields? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi there.

So do you have a shotgun certificate at the moment, if not what stage are you at?

If I might enquire, what is the issue with having the gun at home?

I assume a trusted shooting buddy, can't store it for you?

There are a number of RFD's around, who aren't "shops". Where in Kent are you based?

If for whatever reason you cannot or wont store your own gun at home then don't buy one, use / hire a club gun this would imo be much easier.

Hi Master Clay Breaker, I'm a foster carer so no guns are allowed in the house. I have applied to Kent Police and I'm now just waiting. I have been using club guns at Kingsferry but wanted my own. Greenfields have the armoury but I would need to get it there and back in a day. Storing at a friends house isnt an option as I need to register it at some sort of company. I didnt think RFD's would offer that type of service, I'll have to give it a try. Oh and i'm in Medway.

Hi Skybo.
I assume you were responding to me, I'm Skeet UK. "Master Clay Breaker", just tells you how awesome I am at posting crap on here!

Ok, Foster carer...makes sense. Mind you, I have just read two documents by Cambian Group and Wirral Council, that suggests it would be possible (although, not their preference).

So...with regards to "registering with a company", is this stipulated by the Police?

I'm in Medway too, not far from Hempstead.

Tricky situation. Best bet would be to find a Registered Firearms dealer, near you and see if they can store it.

Perhaps Alan, at KF could store it for you, on the previso that he can Make use of it too..or something.

In particular, AJ Tennant at Detling, Kent Gun supplies in Bearsted, cottage gun repairs in Wouldham.

Foster carer eh? Nice one, good for you :good:

As a Shotgun Certificate holder, you're legally entitled to borrow a gun for upto 72 hours. I would suggest you get a mate to keep a gun which s/he will allow you to borrow as and when.

As you would not be holding a gun on your Cert or keeping one at your home, I can't see how anyone could object.

Tinker will know the ins and outs of the "legalities" ask her. Go on I dare you :)

Haven't you got a reliable relation in the area that could apply for a certificate in their own right, and keep your gun there, I'm sure they wouldn't mine if you offered to pay the costs.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I can't see what being a foster carer has to do with keeping a gun in the house! Who is it that says it's not allowed and why? My god the things are always kept under lock and key, so what is the issue exactly?

Probably elf and panzy regulations Les.

Cannot see why a friend could not store one and have it on both there certificates. Years ago i had all my fathers on mine as 'shared' although they were kept at his, it enabled me to use them without the 72 hr rule coming into force if i decided to take one home with me.

Not much point in putting it on both certs really, unless you regularly go away shooting for more than 3 days at a time.  :sarcastic:

Well it would stop any stupid questions from plod if he ever got stopped of 'whose gun is this then sir, when did you get it - was it more than three days ago? We will have to check up on all of this you know. This did happen to me once, but they were all on my licence so no hassle involved.

If its on both certs there are no questions to answer and he could go to visit different grounds without any time restrictions.

Agree. My brother doesn't have space at his for a cabinet in an appropriate place, so his gun lives at my place. His gun is on my cert, mine are on his, so that we can both transport, borrow, etc. as needed, and at the end of the day, they all end up safely locked up at mine.
