I shoot skeet with gun up but have been told to try gun slightly out of shoulder, what do members think about skeet and compact sporting gun positions?
I've tried this method and all I end up with is face ache. When I do this I don't get my head down on the stock well enough for some reason, just never worked for me really.I find that gun in the shoulder, but head off the stock, prevents me becoming focused on the barrel before the clay appears. It also gives me a clearer sight picture. Probably not for everyone, but it works for me.
AND, therein is the answer........it is what works for YOU ! As I have aged (not mellowed), I am using a lot more 'gun up' stances. That is with the gun fully in my shoulder to start. I now use this method on most going away, and all rabbit type targets. It just works better for ME. I still use either 'gun down' (but not by my knees, as some do) or the cheat method, (although I fail to see it that way) and variations of those, depending on the target. I think you have to find the best method for your style of shooting, then alter it, or stick to it, to suit.I've tried this method and all I end up with is face ache. When I do this I don't get my head down on the stock well enough for some reason, just never worked for me really.
See post #5."or the cheat method"
What's the cheat method?
