Accidents can happy to anyone any time....it is not brand driven....true story.
Accidents never happen, There is always a route cause. But these things do happen I'm willing to accept everything can't be perfect.

+1 on the making part of the routine.  I do it when I first get into the stand and feel like I have forgotten something if I don't.

I assure you 110% its already part of my routine - thats how it was found!

Aftermarket chokes in a gun under warranty which cause a problem with the gun will invalidate the gun warranty. Or is this covered by the after market choke warranty!!

If the after market choke damages an old gun is this covered by the choke warranty and what time period would be acceptable for this.

Does age and fatigue (lots of shells through it, whatever the make) play a part.

Just asking.
I think if an original choke suffered a catastrophic breakage and upon examination it was found that the choke was not fitted properly the manufacturer would say tough luck you did not make sure your gun was properly maintained. Lets be fair it does not matter that the choke is original to the gun or not if, and I am not suggesting it was the case here, the choke is not fitted properly you run a high risk of something like this happening. A forensic examination of the damage should reveal the cause of the fault though and if badly maintained chokes were the reason then the gun maker is not going to take the hit.

Oh yes they dooooooooo.......but as you say....often there is a root cause....distractions being one....or luck on the day, being in the wrong place at the right time........plus nothing can ever be guaranteed to be perfect all the time.

Finally of course sh*te happens......

We just move on and learn something each time
We'll have to agree to disagree I have worked in risk management for quite some time and there is always a route cause normally a human!

Agreed but the result of the cause is an accident surely? For example you are behind a car at a give way in your car looking to the right just before moving forward, you start to move forward because you think there is time before the next car comes along, you assume the car in front is doing the same, and just as you look to the front realise they person in front is not moving... can result in a fender bender... but it was an accident you did not run into the car on purpose did you? The above nearly happened to me... my fault leaving work and wanting to get home... no fender bender and a lesson learned.

thats a road traffic collision as an accident implies there is no one to blame when in fact the route cause was you anticipated the car moving off

(ps Ive done the same many years ago)

I am positively paranoid about loose chokes and like some have said constantly checking when shooting. My new gun came with a interference fit choke key and the little bit of extra leverage has nearly eliminated loose chokes, still check like a paranoid twiddler.

"I am positively paranoid about loose chokes"

Paranoia is not a nice thing ...but because your version has a positive twist to it ...it is a good thing! :)

Yet again I learn from this forum. I just didn't cotton on to the idea that aftermarket chokes would invalidate my warranty! I just never thought of it.

:fie:  Why would any sane person want after market chokes? :fie:   some days I bloody despare :fie:   :fie:

"accident implies there is no one to blame"

My interpretation is somewhat different. Mine is that something happened which nobody involved had the intention of happening. Like some fool car driver pulling out in front of a motorcyclist, they did not mean it to happen however they were careless. Regardless of the outcome it was accidental or happened by chance, unintentionally, or unexpectedly, all of which could be used describe and accidental happening.

ONLY reason I went Muller was to take weight from the muzzle. Now I'm happy, I would wave a magic wand and make it fixed choke with that weight feel if I could.

Cos original mfr don't do them in 1/8 increments :)
ppfffftttt 12.5% increments? Surely you mean 1% one stumbles around a muddy field with a haversack full of jingling metal tubes cursing and rummaging through for the exact constriction for the stand.
