Again, thanks for the replies! Wish the licence process was quicker! I'm liking the look of the B525 and B425. Just need to see what fits me.

What is the grading system about? The quality of the wood? Condition of the gun?

B525's grade 1 is basic grade, elite is middle grade and prestige is top grade, you also get B525 supersport variants that are sporters with a beavertail forend, all based on timber quality and engraving roughly speaking. Mirokus are grade 1 3 and 5, and are generally cheaper than the Browning versions, Browning have ventilated mid ribs that the mirokus don't also.

Ah, I see! That clears things up further :)

Who has dominant eye issues? What's the best way to train yourself? A small patch in the lense?

I'm biased...I have a 525 and really like it. Tried one out at High Lodge first and got on well with it....I say well I am not the greatest shot ! but I felt comfortable with it. The grading system usually refers to the wood quality, finishing etc. Mine is the basic 525 Sporter 1 multichoke......it's a far better gun than I am shooter... :hunter:

A quick easy test.

Get a piece of paper cd size. Year a small hole in the middle.

Hold paper in both hands at arms length.

Focus hole on small object.

With both eyes open move the paper towards your nose.

The hole will go to either eye. This will be your master eye.

If the hole goes to your nose you have no master eye.

Practice this untill your happy.

Double check with optician

Most gun shops can determine your master eye.

I'm right handed and left eye dominant at the mo!

Stylish looking gun, Jem. Would cost me an arm and a leg to get to Somerset in my pick up ;)

What do you use?

So am I, very Left eye dominant.

I shoot a  CG Summit Ascent fixed hi-rib.

It was fitted by Ed and chopped by M Jeffries.

Fits me very well.

Hope you find a gun that suits you and works for you as they are all different.

Welcome, I just started clays in May though I've been shooting in one form or another for 49yrs.

basically start out with a gun that fits you about 90%, get some coaching and work on mounting the gun (can do it at home in front of the mirror), once your mounting is consistent then see about getting it fitted properly unless you decide you'd like something else. If you're not fussed about fancy wood or engraving and are happy with just a tool for breaking clays then you can get a new browning, miroku &etc for under £1300. Way I look at it is I'm going tio have the stock butchered anyway so why pay extra for fancy timber.

Its a great sport and the people are almost without exception some of the nicest you'll meet. ENJOY

Mine took 8 wks (late Nov to late Jan); my brother's took 4 weeks. Both in Herts, but opposite ends of the county.
And that Guerini looks wonderful, day trip!

I'm in Lancs... Wonder whether the force moves quickly in my area! Sent the forms of on the 12th....

You're right though, it would be a day/road trip! What are the other high class and foreign makes/models?

I submitted mine just before Christmas and got it the beginning of Feb. FAO in Lancs is a really nice guy, he will give you plenty of help and advice. Good tip is to print out CPSA guide and read up on the basics, he will ask you a few questions. I went one step further and joined the CPSA as a clubman, £44 and joined a club, all before his visit..... Needless to say he was very impressed.

Also worth looking at BASC as well as CPSA, especially if you want to go after game and not just clays.
Foreign guns worth looking at: Perazzi are revered by many on here, Krieghoff seem to divide opinion but are used by some top shooters, Blaser (there's one as a prize in shootclay cup this weekend), Kemen, Zolli...
Do whatever you can to try them out: holding them in the shop and feeling comfortable is one thing (I got my first gun, a Miroku, on that basis and love it), but actually shooting with it is better: my brother wouldn't really consider another gun after wielding the same model in several shops. Shot with it and liked it, then tried my Fabarm (I really like mine, but general opinion seems to be against me on this brand), and now he prefers it to his gun, despite not liking it in the shop.
