Do whatever you can to try them out: holding them in the shop and feeling comfortable is one thing (I got my first gun, a Miroku, on that basis and love it), but actually shooting with it is better: my brother wouldn't really consider another gun after wielding the same model in several shops. Shot with it and liked it, then tried my Fabarm (I really like mine, but general opinion seems to be against me on this brand), and now he prefers it to his gun, despite not liking it in the shop.
