Just wondering how often you all clean your guns? Personally I don't really enjoy it, it's more of a neccessity thing.  It gets a wipe down after every use and a quick bore snake but that's about it unless it gets wet in which case it's a full strip down.As mine is an auto it get's a major overhaul about every 5000 rounds, gas valve stripped etc and at 10000 the recoil spring changed.  This used to be done every 5000 until I switched to J&P Customworks springs which are not only cheaper than OEM but the current one is still happy after 12000 rounds B)  So in summary a full stripclean about 34 times a year, it's now had about 20000 rounds through it in 18 months and the only issues have been 2 failures to chamber the second round, both following recoil spring changes which should be bedded in with 36g or heavier.  Who says auto's are unreliable . :)Jon.

A very geeky topic Jon. Clearly I am geeky enough to reply.I shoot (my Perazzi o/u) about 10 times a month and clean the gun after every shoot. Got a nice bench in the garage, all the kit in a neat drawer, stereo set up next to it. Cuppa made before I start. If I smoked a pipe, it would be in my mouth as I started.. Basically I quite enjoy it. After all this time I still like being around my gun and knowing that it is all sorted for the next outing is important to me. I do have several `grades` of clean though. I spray and wipe through barrel bores every time, but now only use the brush about every third go. The Clever shells are clean though. Wouldnt get away with it if using something filthy like Eleys. I grease all joints, so I wipe this off and re-grease every time to avoid muck mixing with the grease. About every 5th shoot I have the ejectors out. About every 3000 I take out the firing pins and clean them and their seats.Hope my answer was geeky enough /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif CSC3

I clean mine after every outing, Start with the bores with a quick spray of bore cleaner, leave to soak while I clean the action by wiping over with a light bit of oil and remove cartridge marks on the face ( if any)Then with bronze brush connected to rod I scrub out the bores to remove any plastic fowling from wads or lead if I have to use fibers, I find that the Opti Bores on my Gold E can be a bitch to clean if using fibers ! then with a jag I push through until tissues comes out clean, then oil on wool mop and push through each tube.once all clean and shining  I remove Chokes and clean threads ect and replace. then I lightly oil ejectors and wipe of any excess. Then put barrels back into action and spay some oil on a cloth and wipe over, replace forend and wipe over wood work.I enjoy going through this routine every week end Rob

Geeky enough - no insult intended there, do you think a guy who built a website like this would call himself anything other than 'geeky'...Now - cleaning my gun - I did post this somewhere else - but basically, I clean my gun at the end of every weekend (so at most after one or two shoots:Spray of Beretta Bore Cleaner down each barrel One sheet of kitchen towel into each barrel – twisted into a wad – push through with the rod (they usually get most of crud out) Quick scrub in the cones and chambers with the wire brush Remove the chokes and wipe down with an oily cloth – replace and tighten Wipe down the action with an oily cloth Quick wipe over of the woodwork with a clean duster (no polish) Tiniest spray of gun oil down the barrel Leave it barrel down in the safe

Only if it gets wet.Life is too short /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-kiss.gif

Mine gets shot almost every Sunday, and unless it gets wet (when I wipe with oily rag) it goes straight in the safe. I give it a good clean before it gets rested over the winter (did it this week actually) and came up good as new. Good old Mr Krieghoff. Looks as pretty as when I first got it and shoots where it should too!

I used to strip mine and clean it every time I shot... but now I can't be bothered!

I clean my guns as soon as I can after they've been shot, I don't care if I've only shot 50 or 150 in one day, my gun still gets the works, I like to leave it the way it was when I bought it new, i strip as much I can wipe the visible dirt off and then flush it all down with a can of spray break cleaner then when thats dried off in about 20 seconds I give it all a light oil with Brunox and then wipe off the access, once a month I soak the barrels in 009 for an hour an then spend ten minutes leavin them like new too, a rebuild and final wipe over then into a gun sock and stored barrels down in the safe.

Given a chance I generally try to strip everything soon after getting home /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-wink.gif from a shoot but the gun is always safely locked away first. Having adhered to this routine must have saved me thousands of hours, not to mention the smell of gun oil which sticks to your hands for ages.Sorry but if it gets wet then it gets the appropriate level of care, otherwise a very basic wipe or nothing if it looks OK.

Thorough clean and re lube all moving parts, a chamber brush gets rid of fouling much better than a bore brush after using fibre wads.

I pull it through occassionally when I can be bothered!Maybe if it gets a bit wet I let it dry out and spray something on it! Dunno what though!!! Usually whatever I can find laying around! /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif

If it packs up just buy a new one!Mind you it does not get shot enough anymore like it used to so this saves on cleaning! ;-) Gone are the times of the rubber band around the top leaver and pulling out shells which will not eject with another shell from ones pocket! Hopefully that will change next year! /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-smile.gif

Cars have  a million things to go wrong compared to guns; do you pop the bonnet and wipe the engine bay clean everytime you use yours? /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif

No but I tend to wipe something else clean after use! ha ha ha ha ha! /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif

Glen,It needs to be clean before use.Especially around and inside the receiver.Otherwise you may be using a pull through. And I don't mean a Bore Snake.
