So I've been talking with this SO4 owner about the gun having a new person.  I've noticed some derisive SO remarks here in the past so now would be a good time for you all to air those again.

Things of beauty Charlie. Things of beauty.

We're only jealous...so long as it's a trap gun!

Best looking gun out there imo. Been on my list for a while, just not seen one good enough at the right price yet. Just make sure you know a good gunsmith who knows how to use a screwdriver without slipping and can properly service it without messing up the internals.

What paul said.

I have known SO owners let "gunsmiths" mess with them and got it back with the screws all ripped to bits. Apparently stripping down a sideplate is not as easy as one would imagine. BUT they cannot be any more unreliable than a P with there trigger spring issues.

Ouch, I will get my coat.

I already have a set of official Beretta turnscrews from another time and I'm prolly as competent as 99% of the so-call gunsmiths out there.  I've done strip/clean on sidelocks before and there are no terrors there for me.  And the Berettas are known for well made locks.

BTW that imagined Perazzi problem is hammer springs not trigger springs.  The trigger spring is a nice fat coil and the only prob with it is mashing it and spinning in the trigger guard at the same time.  But I knew what you meant  :preved:

Having owned an SO4, but I am no doubt that you are already aware, look for cracked stocks especially around the head and top strap. Usually caused by some previous owner closing it like it was a LandRover door.

PS

LandRover is a Brit version of a Jeep !

It seems the seller has decided he should keep the gun so I'm relieved of the burden of a new toy

In the early 60's I lusted after a LandRover long chassis w/ the safari roof.  I got over it   :nyam:
