Interestingly, the electricity engineers who need to shut down a live cable, use a chisel that is fired by a .44 blank. It earths the conductors, to the cable armour. Or so I am told.

It's called a spike, it's used to shut a cable down remotely without any risk to an engineer. You Don't want to pop a hacksaw through a supposed faulty cable that should be dead to find it's a live one and your working on the wrong cable.

Spiking! I remember the first time i had to do it on an 11kV line, squeezeeeee arsehole time!
