it was certainly wagging last night when the little sod flushed a bird whilst dogging in and decided to give chase for fifty yards. We "had words" ?

The other exciting bit was to report to the keeper the sighting of a fox in one of the release pens ?

I like dogging in, you get to roam around were Joe public never goes and see all the wildlife up close, I also enjoy the peace of being on my own apart from me best mate eze of course. ?

might not get out this evening for fear of divorce proceedings so plan a 6am sat dogging in session.

ps

do not ever bingle dogging in, you will be shocked at what folk get up to in your area. ?

this is far from a perfect stop to flush but its the best I have for now.

My god did IPS post a vid !!!.................or did someone do it for him

you lost me now when I said wizard I meant numpty ?

Currently on hols in killin in Scotland and its rained heavily none stop all day. Eze in season as of today which is a relief as she should be ok for first day beating 5th Nov. Dogging in will continue next sat as no other dogs around were I work her. I will of course be vigilant and go easy with her

dogging in going well, amazing how much we have improved by working on game and on gamey ground as opposed to dummy work. Keeper is very grateful of the help and constantly thanking me and saying what a great job were doing which is really encouraging for me. He has promised me beating and has already invited me to shoot "keepers day" it seems that the best way to move forward in the gundog world is to befriend a keeper :)

he is a very nice genuine bloke.

Ps

the added bonus of bollocking folk who stray off the footpath or have dogs off lead is fun, I haven't yet been able to wave my thumbstick and shout those immortal words "get off my land" but one lives in hope. :)

I could promise you a good beating BUT you would have to provide your own stick, had to hand mine in when I retired !

I don't think referring to your miroku as a mere stick is very fare on other miroku owners. ?

for discussion

stop or sit to flush is considered the correct thing BUT if dog is in cover you don't know if they have sat stopped or anything else so begs the question (to me anyway) why train it. Surely if beating or dogging in the best thing to happen after a flush is to return to handler for further direction??

furthermore my ***** regularly flushes multiple birds one after another from cover so if she was trained well to sit to flush she would do so after the first one and possibly miss the others. I have trained a breakaway from the flush which has evolved into a recall of sorts and to me this works better.

does anyone do similar or have any thought on the merits of a stop to flush. ??

Generally spaniels  are trained to drop to shot for walked up shooting.scenario is one or two spaniels working the cover to flush the birds followed by the gun and his trusty Lab.upon flush and shot the spaniels drop and lab goes and picks up and claims all the glory. If you are shooting snipe/woodcock you are probably snap shooting and aiming quite low.

but what about beating when there in deep cover. ?

They are not generally trained to drop to shot for beating ,only walked up
