will be posting full report on 2nd season on Saturday ?

SECOND SEASON DAY 1

Not a great deal to report really as it all went very well. Poor weather (apparently) meant that birds flew the wrong way on occasions and or the guns missed so a pitiful bag.

Eze was "in my opinion" faultless, now I know that it isn't possible and there would have been faults so I stress the "in my opinion" as I could not see any apart from maybe tentative hunting sometimes until she got into some birds.
She walked off lead at loose heal between drives and hupped off lead whilst we waited on the edge of the woods She stopped, turned and recalled on EVERY whistle. She was steady to flush and hunted within fifteen yards. Not sure what more I could ask of her.

Enjoyed the day as I knew I would and eze seemed to enjoy herself also. They were a gun down so I could have shot but hadn't taken a gun, I wasn't bothered as I prefer working the dog but shoot captain would have preferred it so better take one in future.

There is no doubt at all that we have improved from last year quite considerably so I am a very happy chap.

Sounds like you are doing brilliantly,if you are achieving that level so soon.Training a dog for the beating line imho is the hardest of all the disciplines,I've trained many dogs but only for peg or picking up.

Remember to keep training and refresher training and you will have yourself a lovely companion.

I have to say ips, that considering she is your first dog, you have worked damned hard and you are now reaping the benefits. Good on yer Fella, keep it up !
I second this,bloody well done,impressive.

Yes looks like you have put a lot of work in Ian, well done

thank you gentlemen, everyone's encouragement has been most ....well encouraging ?

I have decided that beating is the absolute best fun you can have fully clothed, and you needed to be today cos it was chuffing cold in them there hills ?

Can she Cook  ?

If your working cover Ian and you know eze is steady when working in that just keep her a little tighter than your small shoot so she doesn't have the opportunity to push on to far and chase but you'll have to be on your guard on the bigger shoot as there'll be so much scent and action going on she could get over excited and as you put it go deaf .
did just that yesterday on my small shoot as a trial Gareth me old mate, kept her really tight with turn whistle, that tight I was tripping over her ?

Hi Ian did it all go OK though was she dropping to flush as you wanted her to, you may been tripping over her so maybe a little to tight but on a bigger day with more scent and all thats going on she could easily get overly keen and push on from you

went really really well Gareth. Yes dropped to flush ?

yes probably too tight but better that than the other me thinks, I don't want her too hot because I don't want to get heavy with her ?

SECOND SEASON DAY 2

all went well she had good flushes and stopped to every one. She happily waited at the edge of the woods or cover crop until we were signaled to go, hunting again was a little tentative though.
Eze had her first EVER retrieve on game. I meant to start putting feathers on dummy and move onto cold game but the opportunity of a hen pheasant presented itself so I bit the bullet heeled her and sent her "out" thirty odd yards, she took about three seconds to work out how to pick it up but then she came straight back in front of me, she did not drop it in fact I had to give"dead" command before she would release it. I am over the moon. I think I can now call her a trained gundog as this was the last thing for me to tick off the list:)

thank you Sian and pp

luckily my friend was quick on the draw with his mobile ?

Nice one Mate, really chuffed for you. Its a great feeling when it all comes together. Next one is dog sat on peg and when you shoot a bird, she fetches your bird back to you. That will be a special moment. Hoping I can do it with Daniel this season too.

cheers mate. That sounds good, I will put it on my list :)
