Nothing wrong with that, I've known many people who share your opinion Charles!I'm probably going to be branded a heretic here, but I actually rather like the way the colour fades with wear. The Greener in my avatar has just the slightest traces of colour hardening, most of it has worn away after its 100+ years. There are lots of classic English game guns around that over the years have matured, a natural sort of weathering. It seems to match the gradual smoothing of the chequering, the rounding of edges on the stock, and the gradual faint wear to the blueing on high spots.
I know what you mean Charlie and I also always shoot in gloves.Hey - it's your gun. Treat it any way you like. Aside from my simply liking the colors, if a CC'd gun goes up for sale the pristine colors will always command a higher price being somewhat indicative of the level of care that the gun may have received. JMO of course.
As well, I always wear gloves when shooting so that contributes to the longevity of the color on my guns as dirty/sweaty hands eat the varnish and color alike. I know that sounds anal but I need the gloves for other reasons first.
When you shoot from the hip make sure barrels are pointing down rangeNow I see why he gave up Trap.....................he obviously found it caused him to get legless !
