I am not knocking the concept but i am intrigued as to why b p or k have not used the same method if there are benefits ?
I think they do use CNC but not to fabricate the barrels. Most of those things that need to be made by machining out blocks of steel are done this way now. Clever will know more but I think it can be much more accurately done quickly and cheaper than the old methods of doing it when you get to making thousands of things the same.

I know they use cnc i was referring to the one block barrel with no vents concept. Again i emphasise i am not knocking it just curious why it has not been implemented already ?

Of course. And the machines run 24/7 in Gardone.

But boring a billet out to make a pipe, much more difficult and time consuming than using an extruded pipe.

The manufacturing method and the design are different things. You can brilliantly make a nasty design and badly make a brilliant design, so let's not confuse that. You could make a beautifully performing but badly made gun, or a masterpiece of reliability that looked and shot like a dog.

Gun making is so long established that it will simply not have occurred to some established players to try a different way, especially as the old methods do work. CNC (computer numerical control) is OBVIOUS for the action, but is a bit more of an ask for the barrels, hence the reticence to try it until now I assume. I'm no gunmaker, but they are pretty simple things in modern engineering terms.

There's a test feature of the Longthorne in a recent magazine where the writer excels himself by describing the shooting impression as having absolutely no recoil  :lazy:  due it seems to the barrels/rib being fashioned from a single billet of steel !

Longthorne have made giants leaps forward in establishing themselves and pushing sales of a premium sector product, the one piece barrels and laser straight finish are laudable but no recoil ?

Never looked at them up close Ed, so no idea how they look. But as an engineer, if I (at my factory) were given something similar to gun barrels to manufacture, we would use modern CNC machinery to make a strong accurate one piece component; as opposed to the crazy lining up and joining together of lots of parts by ancient bonding techniques.
Will, Jim Stewart, the owner & driving force behind Longthorne guns is a dedicated precision engineer who has spent many, many years machining multi batch components for the motor industry.

Their factory hosts many CNC multi progression machines from which his hobby/dream of manufacturing his own English made guns has evolved into his new profession.

I know Elaine & Jim personally from my time spent in Lancashire, i lived in the next village to Hesketh Bank & would be happy to introduce you to them for you to "chew the fat" as it were........

Just let me know .........

Cheers Phil, I know his story and have chatted with him, but not met him. It's an interesting tale. Ta W

If they go on and on, they should be at home on here !

I know someone who is using one for both game and clays, I will ask an honest opinion about the gun and report back.

I would appreciate this.  Thanks.
