choke is a standard calibrated  engineering measurement   ,   how can they be different ?      cartridges could make a difference yes  albeit  only slight .    many of us on this forum are not good enough shots  to notice any benefit  ,  only in our heads.  !!
Cartridge difference is huge. Makes choke look like a dabble..

Honestly Will I have chucked at least a dozen probably more different makes of cartridge down my Perazzi and hardly a difference to be seen.
With Sporting in mind, I'm talking different shot sizes and loads. Probably not a big difference between a mix of all plas-wad 7.5s for example.

As I think I've probably mentioned a few times on here, I can literally double the outer diameter of a shot pattern between different cartridges at 20 yards

I hadn't considered the wads.  I shoot fibre almost all of the time as I often shoot over fields.  Easier to buy one type rather then both.

Should fibre make a difference?

What would you say give the most spread Will?

Test every cartridge to find out, but usually fibre gives a more open pattern, by about a 1/4 choke equivalent change.

Most I ever found was a 21g express fibre 7.5 shot. On paper it shouldn't spread that wide but it did! Much wider than any 9 shot or piston wad thing I sampled.

Yes has to be said all my cartridges have been plastic wadded 7.5... except I once bought some Lylevale HV 28g felt wads which is the worst cartridge I have ever shot... and dirty? The guy standing next to me had to clean his gun after I fired my first shot

Calibrated to what??. How can they be different?? A 1/4 choke off the shelf in a gun bored 18.4, will be completely different to a gun bored 18.6... As for the question asked i would stick with the mobil chokes.

I was assuming just the one gun in question whatever its nominal boring,  different  makes of choke would or should be calibrated to that particular nominal boring  for that gun .

You can get  the same model of gun, for example. Beretta 682 gold e. One could be bored 18.4(usually trap barrels), and the other bored 18.6. If you go and buy an off the shelf choke it will be at least a choke size difference between the 2 guns. Choking is specific to the nominal bore as you suggest, but the question is, what bore are the off the shelf/after market chokes made for?

The gold e s with 18.4 barrels are fixed choke. All optima guns are 18.6.

Collected the new gun today. I have decided to leave the Mobil chokes in and see how it behaves as I get used to it.  I'll bed it in tomorrow so hopefully it will shoot where I am looking and break the clays.
