Need help making a decision.

It always winds me up when someone in a forum asks for help deciding on a purchase as it's always a subjective decision, but now I've become that guy.

I've finally got my licence and can now seriously think about my first gun. I've been to look at a really nice second-hand MK38 sporter with Teague chokes and super nice grade 5 wood today. The thing is, I really like the Beretta 690 Black Edition which I can get new for a similar price but they don't usually have very nice wood.

So i guess my question is Miroku or Beretta. I do love nice wood but i also really like the Black action with orange highlights on the Beretta.

If anyone knows of a 690 with really nice wood around £2,000 then my decision would probably be made but I think that's pretty unlikely.

I'd really appreciate feedback from anyone with experience of both.

My advice go along to a gun shop where you can take 2nd hand version's of each off the shelf and shoot on ranges - see which you prefer and buy that one.

While nice wood is great to look at it does not make a gun shoot better.

Give Matt Morgan at Premier Guns in Doveridge a call. He always has loads of berettas in stock and hand picks the ones with decent wood.

Two very different 'types' of gun there.

I am biased towards Beretta, but I do like the Miroku's.

Get what suits you, as was said...Then make it fit

If was looking at a possible £2k new gun, I would look hard at a Blaser F16 too.. but as others have said, there is real value in having a gun that fits about right, so see which one does. I had to really dissuade my mate from buying a beautiful grade 5 Miroku because it fitted him like Kylie Minogues clothes fit me.

The people saying which ever fits me best, I was under the impression a gun can be adjusted to fit. The guy selling the Miroku said the stock would need the cast adjusted a bit to fit me but they'd do it for free. I'm still a novice and probably don't mount the gun the same every time so the gunsmith was finding it hard to tell if it fitted me as is.

Agreed it's tricky for a beginner to have gun fit judged, but a decent shop should have somebody who will bend you into the right shape to see the fit (even though you may feel odd in that stance at first).

Have a look at an S3 B725, could be the best of both worlds, they have pretty good wood, black action and mechanical trigger.

I had exactly the same decision to make as you a month ago!!

I knew I wanted to upgrade to 32" barrels from an old Miroku 28" 7000.

York had the 690 black, mk38 Teague grade 5 and b725 black.

A friend has the b725 and I shoot well with it, it has perfect balance off the shelf and a comfy palm swell. Couldn't bring myself to buy the sane gun as my mate and rush being out shot with it [emoji85][emoji85]

The mk38 looked fantastic and fits the same as my old Miroku but it felt like the balance was at the front of the foreend not at the hinge pin. Immediately disliked it and didn't pick it back up.

690 was also a tad barrel heavy as I expected but only a quarter inch in front of the hinge pin which is easily rectified with the b-fast system (once I find someone who has one in stock!!!) it's heavier than the others overall but it really absorbs recoil well as a result. Plus the wood is actually very pretty for a grade 1!

I bought the 690 and don't regret it for a second. The lop is slightly shorter than the others which fits me better too. I shot my usual average first time out in a sportrap comp without firing a shot before hand. Guess that says it all. Buy the one that feels right in your hands.

Miroku...  You get DT quality at Silver pigeon price,  plus stock shapes that for the average man is unbeatable.

Miroku sporters are usually low in the comb.. just watch that as it's the trickiest thing to change. Make sure you are fitted with that in mind and press your face down firmly..

As far as I'm aware the drop and comb height of all 3 are the same. Can't comment on cast of course. The browning and Miroku will have A 15" LOP I believe. The mk60 is another option in the high pheasant model it's really well balanced but no multi chokes.
