weight in the stock ,  surely beretta and other shotgun manufacturers know how to build and balance shotgun weight ,   what makes you think you know better ?

you'd think so...the DT11 is proof that Beretta are more than capable for f***ing things up!!!

Why do I know better??? I spent 3 1/2 years fighting a DT11 trying to make it shoot...3 years too many!!! Almost every top shot who has had one for sporting/fitasc has got rid of it, because the balance and handling is so poor, mostly because the barrels are so grossly over weight!!!

My mate had one of the early dt11s  when he tried to trade it in the gunsmith said. the best thing to do with that is make sure its well insured then run over it with your car.

The cheapest 30" DT11 on Guntrader is £3600, cheapest 32" listed as £3950 - cheapest Krieghoff 30" listed as £2999, cheapest 32" £4595. One pretty much double the cost of the other when new.

Now I do agree as it happens that heavy barrels can ruin a gun and the DT11 is no exception but there are good ones out there and we've all met the odd gunsmith who talks bollocks.

Legend has it that the PFS makers refused (or were asked not) to produce grips for the DT10 because they thought the model not worthy of their product  , truth was of course that they feared it too much.

GMK changed my DT11 cause of a fault, but I stated my wood or similar quality as iv seen some very average wood on some, new gun my wood and didn't feel as muzzle heavy as I like a 32inch to feel, I like how soft it shoots so didn't fancy taken weight form the stock the heavy chokes did the trick. Balance is very personal and what your used to shooting. Shot a friends k80 and it was very muzzle heavy (lovely gun) I'd say I could get used to it tho

The thing is, the oldest DT11 out there is under 4yo but the oldest K80's are what, 30yo? If you'd bought a 32" K80 25 years ago and sold it for £4500 today...the gun would owe you nothing!!! ;)

I do accept that argument and taken as extremes it would make the K80 a good bet but in truth there are loads of newish ones of these out there that have cost their owners an absolute packet and which they now find very hard to shift. I could have used the same argument against most Zoli's and the higher grade CG's and lets face it the high ticket Blaser is probably the best candidate of how to lose money fast.

The point was that all guns lose money and that the DT11 if anything is one of the better ones in that regard. The other point was that some gunsmiths like to spin yarns when it comes to values.

I have never lost money on a gun

Some examples. Brought a Browning B25 B7 30" sport £1850 new sold it 20 years later £4500. A new DT10 32" £3000 sold it two years later £3000 (worst gun I have ever owned)

A K80 32" sporter 5 years ago £7500 p/ exd 18months later £8500 for another K . Current one had it 4 years not saying what I paid for it but it would cost £7000 more today.

All my guns are heavily used. But mint. Hence retain their value and only go up.

I don't doubt you for a minute but yours is the exception and besides £1850 isn't far off £4500 in real terms when you slap 20 years between them.

I've lost next to nothing on shotguns myself but then I buy with my head rather than emotions, high ticket guns are invariably bought with emotion rather than valid mechanical purpose. Also a lot depends on whether you win with it, I imagine Martin Myers K80 pays for itself twice over every year, your average "Plantation" or "Dragon" owner    is on a severe hiding to nothing. My 682e has paid for itself 10 times over but then it's a cheap gun spread over a looooong time.

Well that's all really interesting.  Fortunately for me I'll never have the agony of flipping a K-thing since they are simply just too ugly to own in the first place.  I can't comment on the DT11 thing since the only Beretta I have are an aging SxS and a similar 682.

And back to the OP.  I say, Good Move, Lad!!  On a number of issues as well.  Appearance may not be everything but it scores up there in my book.  And avoiding the market hype of aftermarket chokes was commendable.  A rare combination of taste and practicality at a personal level.
