I shot as a guest at a friends comp today and did really well trying skeet cartridges ( eley Olympic 28g 9's) in advance of comp later this week

Using1/4 and half there was nothing that I struggled to break including some very high and very distant targets hit with the first ¼ choked barrel

it makes me wonder whether 7's and tight chokes are unnecessary generally? I certainly won't be rushing back to larger shot

You do get a dense pattern in a choked gun, due to the very large amount of shot in '9's, but they lack energy at distance because of the small shot size.

What do you call very high and very distant targets?

It is true 9's as Chippy says can be surprising BUT they do have a noticeable stage/range beyond which they won't cope. I've done some fairly structured practice as well as comp tests and the reality is that they won't do what an 8 or 7.5 will at extended range (choke or not) and up close you can get all the coverage you need out of bigger shot.

They make tower shots arguably easier but I did not find that you could use them all the way round; not surprising since no top shot relies on them either.

when i had little knowledge i used to use 7.5's on everything! over time I've switched to my favoured 8's I'll bang 9's at close stuff! but from now on I'll keep the stock of 7.5's and 9's i have but i'll only be buying 8's!

Couldn't be truer in any discipline.  Smoke is meaningless and a prelude to a zero.  A broken target is a broken target.  I cop to using a lotta 8's but 71/2's hold no fear.  And I never wonder if it's got the moxie - all I gotta do is put it on the target.

Tho I do use 9's at skeet cuz the club rules say so

I have a chocolate teapot that is more useful than 9 shot cartridges. They are utterly pointless to my mind. Like a massively ugly nymphomaniac or a chef that is scared of ovens. Or indeed any open top car.

150ft tower, some targets at 70 yards (apparently) no less than 60 though

Dunno, soft tops wouldn't be my second or even third car choice but these are a lot of car for £15k.  :)

What about a massively ugly but incredibly rich nymphomaniac or a wimpy bar chef or a F1 car

I'd rather sh*t in my hands and clap than drive a spider!
Seriously though, cheap as chips for what it is, 2 ltr solid unit, nothing inside to go wrong, not even PAS, good power to weight ratio and decent handling, looks fantastic 20 years on. Good ones fetch more now than they cost new, can't say that about your average cabrio.

Yeah i looked at them years ago in a moment of weakness luckily i didn't buy it I mate the utterly mad decision to buy a clio V6 then 2 Evo's 1 of which was stupid rare and then sold it it's only appreciated 4k in 3 years!!

Yeah but...you can't rest your arm on the door, because the window is 9 inches above the door when fully down!

Nice though, for pootling about.

Not quite as nice as these though, :)

I am beginning to have an awful feeling that this thread might have degenerated because someone saw me driving my wife's Peugeot 207cc cabriolet to Purbeck last week.

It's my wife's car. Not mine at all. The dog likes it, though; he's even learned how to work the roof.

Don't like soft tops---- Never had the top up on this. Any time anyone's around here and fancies a blast pm me. Yes V8, 5 speed Hewland (no not really) tricked up LT77. 3.7 diff. 15" x 72 spoke wheels, no tax (thank god). It does go well.

Don't they look better without the plastic-monstrosity-crime-against-humanity-style plastic bumpers!

Nice motor car, nice wheels, nice power plant, nice colour.

Take me 'at off to you.
